@inthehands many people on Mastodon, when I first joined, were hostile to quote-posts becuase of the potential to trigger pile-ons.
but I've seen over & over again underrepresented persons getting harrassed... nigh invisibly to everyone else. then, there's some weird exchange from reply-guys "well I didn't see it" that sounds achingly similar to "works on my machine".
I wonder if actually having quote-posts would help. Certainly seeing @timnitGebru post some screenshots was eye-opening for me.
@mattly I can't help but feel that "acting professionally" in the corporate world means completely suppressing your authentic self. But LinkedIn seems to bring that to a next level, where the "authentic self" has just been entirely absorbed by the corpspeak
watching the NYT try to downplay Labour's astounding showing in the British election just confirms to me there is zero reason to consider the paper any kind of arbiter of unbiased news reporting.
just stop already trying to cry tears of "b-b-b-but they are abdicating responsibility!" they are not; anyone pretending they have to be unbiased is. work to clearly reset this expectation (that should never have been there in the first place, not in the last 8 years, not in the last 8 decades).
Hi! I bounced over here from mastodon.social b/c of @uberduck and @comptona .
I've been a release engineer for quite a while, at Google for a large portion of it, which isn't interesting unless you're at Google. I'm in SF Bay Area, have 2 adorable dogs, & am in a 4-years-and-going-strong "cloud" D&D game my partner runs.
I have a large number of books becuase I was raised to never throw out books. I've only thrown out one book ever.
> Often this is conflated with the concept of SRE from Google, which I will argue until I die is a giant mistake. SRE is in the same genre but a very different tune, with a much more disciplined and structured approach to this problem.
having worked at Google lo these many years, I can tell you *Google* never conflated this concept, not even a little bit.
