@skinnylatte TIL, thanks for posting this!
my pop was in the WW2 Pacific Theater, but not any of this!
@skinnylatte is this the Steven Chow movie...?
I love his movies. so awesome. Now I want to rewatch God of Cookery. I don't think I have it...!
@mattly that's what my partner is just said!
@skinnylatte I have a friend who's husband's grandmother is from Malta and they qualify for it. There are other hoops of course.
@hrefna i feel there's a subtext here i'm missing
@mattly they've been warning about it for ages
@molly0xfff https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_Todd_mugging_hoax
@hrefna I am super concerned about it since apparently this is "troubling" my incoming new senator.
no, no, focus on other things
@mattly wow! I had to go watch it, you are right!
but, this 2-second bit caught my eye. perception of police hasn't changed much, has it
@mekkaokereke meanwhile, prop 36 passed.
@mekkaokereke the only thing I can think of here is if curators of starter packs get into the same ... nature of disputes that curators of block lists do, it will only deepen divides and bring the end to any hope of intersectionality
And given how starter packs are effectively the diametric opposite of block lists, I don't see a way to avoid it.
To be clear I'm not actually against them but you asked for cons. I'd instead assert some plan for mitigating the inevitable dispute be considered.
@hrefna lol
@mattly obligatory reply to say #UncapTheHouse will go quite far in evening it out
@mattly that tracks
@mattly that said, fediverse by design hearkens back to Usenet
@thomasfuchs to be fully fair and impartial, they need to ask the question of all participants in the debate.
@inthehands many people on Mastodon, when I first joined, were hostile to quote-posts becuase of the potential to trigger pile-ons.
but I've seen over & over again underrepresented persons getting harrassed... nigh invisibly to everyone else. then, there's some weird exchange from reply-guys "well I didn't see it" that sounds achingly similar to "works on my machine".
I wonder if actually having quote-posts would help. Certainly seeing @timnitGebru post some screenshots was eye-opening for me.
Liz Warren, Mark Warner, Tammy Baldwin have endorsed Kamala
...I can't see another nominee. I mean, who else can access that Biden/Harris war chest?
@mattly I can't help but feel that "acting professionally" in the corporate world means completely suppressing your authentic self. But LinkedIn seems to bring that to a next level, where the "authentic self" has just been entirely absorbed by the corpspeak
