There’s a new Yemeni coffee chain popping up across the US. They also have various non espresso drinks - traditional teas, and pastries. They’re also open quite late in some locations, which I’m a fan of. Too many alc centered coffee bars out there.

If anyone else is wondering what the #itch #itchio news is, it's related to the taking down of NSFW content from search indexing following #steam / #valve's decisions from pressure from their payment processor and lobbying groups. the following steps were done with very little community input which should have been front and center in deciding how content moderation could be done equitably. This is a TL;DR because I didn't get what other people were subtooting, but you can check out other articles out there with more details.

At times, there are some benefits to hiding NSFW content but more often than not, this ends up being a slap on the wrist for people who are actually posting things that are concerning and a lot more about policing creations by marginalized folx who are often treated as inherently NSFW. we've seen this with QTBIPOC folx having their content being taken down on instagram, or having entire swaths of tumblr fandoms disappear. It's not surprising when companies turn against us even when built by us.

@skinnylatte had a really good convo with my korean diaspora EMDR therapist about the visceral experiences of going to the asian supermarket. yes i could get my groceries delivered by say weee but do i want to ? no.

On March 28th, a 7.7 magnitude hit the home country of my parents. My dad's side lost one house. My mom's side was outside the earthquake zone. Thankfully, they are safe, but power is still down in most of the country and the destruction of major roads disrupt access to food and supplies. Schools collapsed while in session and historical sites have been destroyed. Some of our family friends lost their lives among the hundreds.

I am re-posting thread to clean things up a bit, since I was a bit emotional when I first made them.

After the earthquake in Myanmar, my aunt's house suffered minor damage. Thankfully they are safe and the house is still up. She owns her brother in laws house which fell down, so his family is living with my aunt now.

My family shared reports about how a Chinese school collapsed during classes, a historical pagoda that they used to visit being destroyed, and Mandalay university being on fire. My mom's friend lost his father and aunt.

Many areas of myanmar often only has power for a few hours at a time but the little infrastructure they have has been disrupted so even developed areas or areas that were outside of the earthquake's center have no power again. The wealthy have solar power and sustain. Major roads have also gone astray, cutting off some people's access to food.

Just a reminder that when you see news about earthquakes like this, it's a literal collapse of people's lives, and there is still a wealth (often in relation to ethno-religious classes) disparity in who survives.

In a country where many people are impoverished and unable to eat, even more so are they now isolated and many of the injured will likely never be found.
