Behold: it spins
I accidentally chose one of the most annoying Minecraft blocks to render properly for my test case, I have sort of faked it for now

@vv221 my favorite album by ujico is [FLOWERS], check it out:
https://0101.bandcamp.com/album/flowers
I discovered Ujico when I bought this album in Akihabara, and later I bought their complete discography on bandcamp a few years ago. I'm not into everything ujico puts out but they're very prolific so there's heaps of stuff I like in there.
From Alastair Reynolds, I recommend Revelation Space and A House of Suns; the former is better known but the latter is a personal favorite. Revelation Space is a sci-fi novel that you don't realize is actually a horror novel until you're gripping your seat. House of Suns is a story which is mostly reliant on a cool premise, but the premise is really interesting and an intriguing setting emerges from it.
Some specific recommendations from these authors, to give back a bit :)
A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge is a book I've read three times and consider essential reading for any sci-fi fans and in particular hackers -- it has space usenet! It's an epic space opera with an incredible setting and a gripping conflict on a galactic scale which many sci-fi novels promise but few deliver on.
From Tchaikovsky I recommend The Final Architecture trilogy. The first book opens with a moon-sized alien ship appearing in the solar system and turning the Earth into a giant, esoteric sculpture, then disappearing. No, they didn't really have time to evacuate, and the human diaspora scatters throughout the galaxy, regroups... and then a similar ship appears over another populated world.
Soliciting scifi/fantasy book recommendations to read while traveling this week. Some books recently read & enjoyed Samantha Shannon, R. F. Kuang, Alastair Reynolds, Vernor Vinge, Adrian Tchaikovsky. Anyone kindred spirits care to share a few titles from their shelf?
I've heard a lot of free speech absolutists defending hate speech but I've never seen one question the legitimacy of an NDA 🤔
@Prma an NDA is a restriction of speech, which the free speech absolutists should object to
In case you want some nice jams my Bandcamp purchases are indeed, of course, fire, enjoy
Drew DeVault EXPOSED! His Bandcamp purchase history shows that he likes Ujico, and only pedophiles like Ujico!
You think I'm joking but a kind moderator took down some harassment material and sent this over to me. The haters are really that desperate.
Been looking at jj as an alternative to git and I find it pretty interesting (though making note of a nontrivial number of critiques as I explore it).
But the thing which assuredly, tragically kills it dead for me, is that their community is on Discord.
It's so fucking sad when I mentally have to throw a promising project into the bin for this one stupid, tragic decision.
Four years later, the blog post is still strictly speaking true in the sense that no new browser engines can correctly render, say, google.com, but I concede the point in light of the fact that a browser engine that can render my blog is ostensibly feature complete 😉
I low-key love it that rendering my old blog post asserting that it is not possible to build a new browser engine (because they're too complex) has become a popular test case for people writing new browser engines

@anthk @cygnathreadbare @report_press and I'll add my own take which is that (1) RMS is not invoking "romeo and juliet" laws, he has defended 80+ year old men having sex with teenagers (2) your stupid take makes this community worse for everyone but especially women so put a sock in it
@anthk @cygnathreadbare @report_press the report addresses this (stupid) take:
So before I broke out the popcorn today I was working on rekindling an old passion
