Watching the emergence of topical AI bots on mastodon is both fascinating and a bit alarming. The ones I am seeing are somewhat easy to detect, but itโs not hard to think those rough edges will get smoothed over soon
@gearhead I can't find the issue right now, but there is a githb issue in the mastodon issue list to generate the preview card for a link on the instance the link is posted from - and have the preview card distributed with the post, rather than expecting each instance to create their own card. @steveo1049@tw000@Teri_Kanefield
Hi all. Just a reminder that I created infosec.space for people who do not want any interaction with threads.net, while infosec.exchange will let members choose whether to interact with threads or not*.
blocking another instance at the account level is not as effective as instance level blocks, but still good at preventing access to posts.
Infosec.space is running on much, much smaller hardware than Infosec.exchange. Both have ample room for substantial growth, however. I continue to identify and address bottlenecks, but things are quite stable now.
You can download your posts by clicking the โrequest archiveโ button at the bottom of the settings, import & export page.
Mastodon does not support importing posts. Setting up shop on a new instance is starting over from a posts perspective. Your followers will transfer automatically and you can refollow based on an export of your follows (not automatic). There are some GitHub issues open against mastodon to support this, but itโs not on the roadmap as far as I am aware. Firefish and iceshrimp do support important posts, but the software is much less refined than mastodon is. Infosec.town and fedia.social both run this software.
Itโs interesting hearing my 24 yo son and his fiancรฉ talk about Sept 11 2001. He was about 1 and she was not yet born when it happened.
It makes me wonder how people will talk about January 6, 2021 in 20 years when we have adults that werenโt alive for it. I suppose that, in large part, will depend on what happens this year.
@tchambers FWIW, as an admin of an instance with a LOT of follow relationships back and forth with indieweb, I can say Tim is doing an excellent job. @maybit
In positive news, I set a few personal bests already in 2024โฆ I made it 8 hours before being DQd for husband of the year and an amazing 12 hours before falling out of the running for father of the year.
Ok, https://infosec.space is open for business. As a reminder, infosec.space hard blocks threads.net and otherwise follows the same rules as infosec.exchange.
