This year the #HackerTrain to #FOSDEM is going to be a distributed system 🐙🚋

We’re doing this completely on a voluntary basis, so if anyone has professional skills or connections, they would be very welcome!

In the long run we want to make it so even those who would otherwise have a hard time to afford it, can travel to #FOSDEM ecologically and in good company. If anyone wants to sponsor, that would be amazing.

@aral, this. I think the bigger problem is not the name, but that you do not have a simple button in the browser anymore.

Also it sounds like "everyone" was using Google News, but not as many follow feeds now, IMHO because feed readers are now ever so slightly less convenient than "this got shoved in my face together with my 'free' email account and 'everyone' uses it".

So a bit more effort required to find feeds, a bit more to find readers, it adds up.

@evan, I know, and this was the idea behind Git in the first place, IIRC.

I know great improvements have been made to Forgejo since the forking and federation is sweet and all.

But how easy/practical is it in practice? Especially for those who are not me on my server.

I'm undecided whether to move my git repos (there's not many really) from GitLab and GitHub to a (#YunoHost) self-hosted #Forgejo instance or not.

On one hand it'd be kinda neat.

On the other, I don't want to make the very few contributors' lives more difficult and my niche projects even harder to find.

Also, might make sense to have a mirror somewhere in case my own server goes down. And then the question is again, where to mirror to and why not just use that instead.

The main idea is that on the on the night train from Prague to Brussels
(28-01-2025 18:02 →29-01-2025 9:27) we pick up other #hacker|s along the way and organise an #unconference while we drive towards the main event.

Na poti bomo pobrali še druge hekerje in na (nočnem) vlaku organizirali ne-konferenco.

Nimamo vlaka zase, si pa zato lahko vsak izbere koliko udobja rabi (in še mali popust imamo).
