@evan yeah, I was supporting Porter because she's a protege of Elizabeth Warren and I liked her in Congress, but it looks like she's out of the running. I'm waiting for another couple of weeks to vote just to see where (reputable!) polls are. Today, I would vote for Steyer. I didn't like him at first because of the billionaire thing, but friends and others I trust speak well of him and his political achievements. He's sincere according to personal reports. Becerra has said some bad things lately, and as AG he worked against police transparency and accountability. He's backed off of single-payer. :( :( I worry he would be just another corporate Democrat and just another Newsom.
@evan hard to say... depends on the person and task. IMO a CLI is far more versatile and powerful than a GUI for someone who knows the tool(s) being used, but a GUI can make its use possible in the first place by a non-techie. Also, a GUI can offer all kinds of visual data like charts, etc. I use both at different times. I said "yes, but...".
@evan not for a whole season or anything. We did road trip from Houston to Colorado once to see 3 shows at Red Rocks and 2 at Telluride, all quite spectacular. Usually I would just fly from Houston to California for a run of 3-4 shows.
@evan I once traveled from California to London to see Kate Bush. It was so worth it! I also used to travel within the US to see the Dead, and more recently have traveled to New Orleans or LA to see shows by favorite musicians. If it's an interesting place, you can always make a fun trip out of it.
Which taqueria is your favorite? I'm a fan of Pancho Villa and its smaller sibling El Toro two blocks away, if they're still there. Relleno burrito and shrimp fajita burrito were my faves.
@soatok "Secure end-to-end encryption needs to become table stakes for communication software."
Exactly! I've been trying to advocate for this for a decade. E2ee should just be baked into everything by default, because we can and there's no reason not to.
@evan yes! The primaries are super important to focus on, since they're when we have a chance to replace ineffective (or even collaborating) neoliberals with progressives. THIS is the time to fight like hell for the best candidates, not by withholding votes in the general.
IMO if the Democratic party stays under the forceful control of neoliberals, they will keep losing important elections. When polled on individual issues, US voters strongly support progressive policies.
@pluralistic it's always been striking to me how little FB and Zuckerberg seem to understand about actual friendship. For example, no one with genuine friendships would think that "AI" friend substitutes could replace real, sentient friends. It seems psychopathic and solipsistic.
Good No Kings turnout in Berkeley! It was on and around the wide pedestrian walkway over I-80, with lots of signs and banners. I'm bad at guessing crowd sizes, but it was easily thousands, and loud. There was a continuous medley of supportive honking from cars and 18-wheelers on the freeway (I have a short video but am having trouble posting it). This photo is only of the ramp up to the crossover, which was even more packed. I saw only a few police, and they were laughing and friendly and kept their distance.
