To misquote The Joy of Cooking, “No matter how incongruous the media or fucking weird the implementation, the urge to destroy stuff in strange ways persists.”
@kims Not quite the same circumstance, but I am reminded that I am delighted that nearly all of my USENET writings have passed beyond the event horizon into the unknown.
Hey local-to-me nerds! We have one - possibly two - tickets for “Fun Home” (the Alison Bechdel musical) on 12/4 at the Huntington theatre. Orchestra row J. Ticket was $135 ($150 incl tax/fees) and I'd like to get most/all of that but it's not a dealbreaker. Please let me know if you’re interested.
@ryanc ACTIVE meowing may confuse people who expect it to be the same as ESTABLISHED meowing. But just because the meowing state is ACTIVE doesn’t mean the meowing is actually being exchanged.
@wendynather Interesting. I had a bunch of knee-jerk "no, that's not accurate" reactions, but whether or not that's accurate on my part, it doesn't matter if this is that guy's experience and what he's been seeing.
I think guys are absolutely being shafted by this culture - I think top of the heap is ways that men are taught that anger is the only acceptable emotion to express and the lack of opportunity for boys/young men to learn more/better conflict resolution stuff.
And unfortunately, the men's groups most loudly talking about the ways things are difficult for men (MRA etc) tend towards the incredibly toxic.
I haven’t been in Seattle in over a decade and wow downtown has certainly changed. I like the new convention center summit building. In particular the big airy huge wooden staircase with glass walls. I really really want to see someone film a big fight scene there. Exterior pic of the side of the building and interior shot showing a piece of the stairway.
ANCIENT NET HISTORY QUESTION! Okay, fellow old-timer internet folks, @clauclauclaudia and I were talking about ancient USENET stuff and cannot remember if "really early USENET communication between Australia and other places was done via shipping hard drives on Qantas" or not. I know there were times when USENET used shipped hard drives rather than UUCP or whatever, but we couldn't remember if it was standard operating procedure or what.
She/her pronouns. Comic relief, moral support, occasionally tells the packets where to go. Grumpy old queer married person in eastern Massachusetts. Generally wandering around feeling like I'm secretly a cartoon of three raccoons in a trenchcoat trying to pass. :donor:"This is, I suppose, some kind of audio-vibratory physio-molecular transport device?"
