@iska Just to followup on this, checking with the original sources shows that we were both right, Unreal was S3M in a UMX container, UT99 was IT in a UMX container. -

@iska The music for Deus Ex and Unreal Tournament was written in Impulse Tracker format, but shipped in the Unreal engine-specific container format UMX. Wikipedia also claims that the first Unreal was like that, but I dunno the actual history. Guess you could find the composers on twitter and ask.
The original notes for the unreal engine only mention IT.

Yeah, I found that confusing growing up, having been raised as an Anglican, and as a teenager had a female priest. Much of the actual theology passed down from the Church fathers for millennia was obscured or ignored.
The reality is that this world isn't permanent and we've already been told about the end of it. God is not concerned with our accomplishments or making things happy or comfortable in this life, God is concerned with teaching his prospective children to love selflessly like He does, and healing them from the damage that sinning has done to them, so we are prepared for the next life. -

The actual historical reality is that the religion of the ancient world was much more likely to be monotheist than anything the pagan reconstructionists have ever come up with. The modern secular view of religious "evolution" going from animism -> polytheism -> monotheism -> scientific atheism is wrong on every level. -

And again, my point still stands, that there seem to be no actual interaction with these spiritual forces beyond what amounts to a wistful remembrance of them, and a "wouldn't it be cool if they were real" aesthetic. They aren't living as you would expect them to if they actually believed in what they say they worship. Let alone any testimony of actual miracles that they were responsible for.
(I'm aware that the vast majority of Christians also do not live like that, the realization of that as a teenager was why I never attended church as an adult. Until I basically stumbled into the Russian Orthodox Church in a circumstance that left zero doubt about certain things). -

Like all neopagan "faiths" those were romantic reconstructions, not an actual continuation of any kind of historical practice. And I put "faith" in quotation marks, since like all neopagans, other than some basic magical ritual and non-committal talk about virtue, there's almost no focus on the actual dieties that they allege to believe in enough to worship. -
