Cremona's Duomo - one of the most glorious facades in Italy - and Baptistery. Unexpected for what is quite a small town. Time for the full seasonals now.
Look who came to the fourth of my Opera in Depth classes on Smetana's 'Libuše' - none other than Royal Opera Music Director in waiting Jakub Hrůša. I find it increasingly difficult not to have tears in my eyes talking about this masterpiece, and he expressed his feelings about it so eloquently. The magnificent concert performance he conducted in Litomyšl should be released on CD at some point.
Bluesky has become a bit of nightmare right now, with all sorts of unwanted dodgy folk following me. Of course if I find anything in common, I follow. But the porno babes, bitcoin merchants and new age hard-sellers I block. Hopefully it's just a phase.
@EugeneMcParland Yes. It's hypocrisy to pretend otherwise. NATO, which has so far saved the Baltic nations from Putler's bloody maw, is more important than ever. God knows what Typhoon Orange will do to change all this.
@glynmoody They have to tell him to fuck right off. But they probably won't. Or they can say, let's see what you get up to from day one, and that will be dire enough for them to turn down the invitation. Heck, we can share nothing with this bunch of monsters, least of all intelligence.
@glynmoody Yes, but even that 'crap town of Britan where no-one has good sex', according to my militant friend Daisy, voted to oust Therese Coffey, so it's not beyond redemption...
@glynmoody I love it and hate it. The setting, and Snape up the river, lovely. But I'll never forget it was driving in to Aldeburgh for the Festival just before the Referendum when I first saw 'Take Back Control' signs outside most houses, and realised we'd been living in a London bubble. Still, the town did shuck off the hideous Therese Coffey and actually went Labour this time, so they're not all bad.
@gwynnion Stop being scared about Harris - but you would do as well to be worried about the state of the USA even if she does become President. The planet does stand a bit more of a chance with the Democrats, don't forget that. And so does Ukraine.
@dangillmor I totally agree, and my colleagues still there say 'I know, but...' An interesting demonstration of how people might have behaved in Nazi Germany,
I hope I live long enough to see AOC as President. She seems indefatigable, and even though as a non-US citizen I can't donate, I enjoy reading her many e-missives.
