On my way home from work today, I passed a Little Free Library.
It's door was left open.
This disturbed me.

@cyberpunklibrarian I've been starting to feel the same thing. And maybe old games, like GameBoy carts. My wife is feeling a pull to creating a curated collection of physical books to pass down, needful reads.
I think we, as a generation (and some ahead and behind) are feeling the digital slipping away from us. More accurately, stolen.
@vlrny I grew up learning to hold the door for people. I got to university, and I got shouted at for it, told it was sexist. That hurt, I was just being nice to people. So I decided, rather than ceasing to hold the door for people, I'd just make sure to hold the door for *all* people. It's not about them needing the help, it's not about me thinking they need the help. It's about me doing a tiny little favour for my fellow human being, whomever they might be. No one's ever had a problem with it since.
@tezoatlipoca Non-software twisted "bar" joke:
Two guys walk into a bar. Which is weird, because you'd think if the first guy walked into it, the second guy would've seen it...
@farah He actually appeared on The Big Bang Theory. Ugh.
I wish I could just be an actual introvert or an extrovert, one or the other. Seems like either would be so easy, by comparison.
I'm mad, I'm sad, I'm lonely, I'm scared of the world, and I don't feel like anything will ever get better.
"You have to help me clear the Straight of Hormuz!"
@mastodonmigration And the next pandemic is getting its shoes on in India right now, with no vaccine... @BruceMirken
So AI companies are buying all the memory, graphics cards, and now hard drives that exist, leaving personal computing out in the cold. And to think, I was about to get rid of a few of those old clunker laptops in my basement. Now, they might be the only options I'll have if my main goes down, for years.
I read a webcomic in my RSS reader. The topic was (in part) Groundhog Day. I read it, I liked it, I marked it Read, and cleared it.
An hour later, I went into my RSS reader and refreshed for new items, and the exact same comic came up as if it was new.
Perfect.
@evan No matter whether Bob replied as "followers only" or " everyone", Bob's followers should be able to see his reply. They shouldn't be able to scroll up and see Alice's orignal post unless they also follow Alice. But Alice's choice for her own post should not override Bob's choice for his.
@DemocracyMattersALot "Raped" her at 13. What she told the investigation was that he *raped* her at 13. Fucking headlines.
@inthehands Thank you for this, Paul. News of Minneapolis' victory is thus reaching all the way up here into Canada, and is most welcome and heartening news.
My brother-in-law's company in England is still sending them to the upcoming conference or whatever in California.
The company is issuing them burner phones, and officially advising them that if they have any dual citizenship, to take the other passport with them, too--if it comes to getting out in a hurry, it might be easier and faster to get into Canada than back to England.
And they're still sending them. ๐ฅ
I've got six pieces of leftover KFC, four Rice Krispies squares, it's six hours until I can go home, it's quiet, and I wish I was wearing sunglasses. Hit it.
Special Christmas and other holiday greetings to all the healthcare workers, first responders, delivery drivers, security guards, transit workers, and anyone on-call who have to work despite the holiday, because you're indispensable. I see you, and I value you. #JoinIn
@sand It's too bad there isn't as vibrant and... energetic a punk scene around anymore.
It's the end of 2025, for fuck's sake.
I mean, thanks for "wearing" a mask when you're ill, but how stupid do you have to be to still be wearing it under your nose?
If I said to you,
- I might like to take up an instrument as a casual hobby, and am attracted to ukulele/guitar/similar,
- I tried ukulele, but my large hands and gradually-more-arthritic fingers have trouble with it at that size
- I like the idea that you can plug an electric guitar into headphones to practice while disturbing others less, but electric is more expensive, and doesn't seem like the place to start...
Would you have any thoughts or suggestions for me?
