So the whole Comet Pizza thing was actually true, except not under a pizza parlour but on a private island, and they were pointing fingers in the wrong directlion. Every accusation is a confession.
What is it about October and November that makes everyone want to create events and shit with plays on the month names? NaNoWriMo, Movember, Inkotober, etc. etc. Fuck. Enough, already.
An acquaintance of mine realized he had chronic pain earlier this year.
Doc couldn't figure it out, tried to treat the pain, but it kept getting worse. After months, I guess they finally looked at the right thing, and he got a cancer diagnosis. Stage four.
Stronger and stronger pain treatment, still not enough. Aggressive cancer treatment, too.
He died last night, in hospice. They finally gave him two days pain-free, but that was it.
@jd Is there a newer, nicer term for "grammar Nazi"? Now that we have *actual* Nazis again, can someone just be a "grammar stickler"? Because my inner grammar stickler does not like this graphic.
@arstechnica Okay. I've been saying for some time that AI is bad, no one should use these stupid chatbots, etc.
But I'm starting to have a new thought.
Let those who are willing go ahead. And let those who are stupid enough to trust LLMs for medical and nutritional advice put glue on their pizza, or whatever it tells them to do.
Eugenics is a bad thing. But if it's self-selection, isn't it just Darwin Awards writ large?
Stumbled upon a video about The Rainbow Connection from The Muppet Movie.
This song is complicated for me.
From way back--I was a kid when the movie came out, saw it in the theatre--it moved me. I've since developed a thing for Paul Williams's music, dude was a flippin' GENIUS. But it was something else, something more, deeper.
And then around ten years ago, I was seeing a girl who meant a lot to me, and she wanted to get into vinyl (not like that!). I had already bought a record player I was going to give to her, but had to give her an album or two to go with it, and kept my eyes open. Then I saw it--a vinyl LP of that movie's soundtrack, and I knew she was a fan, too, though it had come along much before her time.
She was in tears when she opened the gift. But we broke up not too long after, and I never listened to it with her. So the song grabs my heart in a couple of different ways now. Still undeniably powerful, though. Simple, quiet, but very deep.
Can we, as a society, just stop equating rich and/or famous with important and/or expert?
If someone who got rich by writing a book series that was hugely successful opines on books or being rich, okay, fine. But if he has opinions about other people's sex lives or health or something? Ignore him as the crackpot he is. His opinion doesn't matter any more than any other one person. Stop printing it. He's not an expert on these subjects, he's not important, stop.
@RickiTarr Not *officially* diagnosed, but the doctor diagnosing my son paused in the middle of a sentence, turned to me and said, "by the way, you too".
I must say that I very greatly dislike the idea that I am, in my time, where my grandparents were, in their time, seeing the advance of fascism and having to decide what they would say, what they would do, what they were prepared to risk, to stop it, and worrying that it may not be enough.
Do you find you can be extremely aware of tiny signals (i.e. "the dishwasher doesn't sound quite right", "I wonder if she's recently pregnant, her walk has changed"), but oblivious to social cues which depend on tiny signals (i.e. "is she flirting with me, or just more friendly than average?")?
@mayintoronto More Ontarians' private and sensitive information going to the USA, to say nothing of the jobs. This is a government function, Dougie. Fuck.
