    Yep, whitelisting has been offered many times, but it makes people reluctant to join, not to mention some have explicit idiosyncrasy to such things.
    In theory it could be not registration, but an assignment of a non-persistent ID — this could be a base of some sort of loose hierarchy. We already have that — we have IP-addresses, you can hide that behind a proxy chain to remain mostly anonymous: even if you are a bad actor, I can't tell who you are on my end, but I can contact the one who relays your shit to me and ask them to make it stop, they send the message down the line, lest they disagree with you being a bad actor — in which case I can still block the relay entirely.
    If we had some sort of mesh networks — that would be the actual case, mostly anonymous, but on universal agreement — and that would be the case with bad actors, we could eventually physically isolate them. But, like I said, as long as we rely on corporate and state-built networks, we have to play their games 🤷

    Network infrastructure is more critical IMO — if people controlled that, we could throw bad actors like that the fuck out, not really possible when we are relying on states and corporations. Networks built on top of existing infrastructure resolve that to a degree, being small also helps — I haven't seen these massive scrapes in Geminispace, I think it doesn't even blip on their corporate radar.

    I actually have good eyesight — never worn glasses. For me large fonts is a design technique I like rather then necessity. I enjoy fonts when they are nice (not Robodroid Noto Sans). Being able to read from a phone at arm's length is a nice plus of course.
    Unfortunately not all software handles font scaling properly, especially at 130% 😅

    I've recently experienced OOM on a machine that has only 8 gigabytes and which I don't have bigger RAM modules for: iamb — TUI Matrix client in Rust uses ratatui, probably improperly, as it visibly redraws the whole UI on each cycle. It's not too annoying, but as it turns out, when the window isn't visible, it makes Alacritty (also in Rust) go haywire — it looks like it makes the scrollback buffer grow indefinitely. It got killed when it started chawing into swap noticeably 😂
    Wasn't Rust supposed to eliminate precisely such issues? 🤔
