my uncle was a professional publisher of high end art/photography books. i remember how meticulous he was with every single aspect of text/font/picture layouts. he found most text editing software on computer painful to use.
the problem with the web is that we have two religions with irreconcilable differences. you can't have any random device with any random screen layout, size, resolution, and control exactly how a page is displayed and formatted. you get fixed display and control, or no control and any device.
more and more as i try to help my mom deal with all the "new features" in her computer and phone that don't work for anyone with any sight, eye/hand, or skin chemistry issues, i'm back to this:
'no developer of any device software/OS that human beings use is allowed to touch a single line of code until they have spent 6 months doing user support at an assisted care facility'
at least give them some tools to recognize when they might need to watch their backs, as well as some tools for how to manage up when you don't have a great boss.
you are giving them good memories so that after they live through some abusive managers and progress to when they manage, they will know how to do things better.
we need a slew of changes. ditch the electoral college. major campaign finance reform. mandatory consistent federal term limits (the same for all states), ditching of the current congressional seniority system for committee assignment, federal oversight (and enforcement!) of voting districts, federal standards for the algorithms used for said voting districts.
way too many thumbs on the scale now and no calibration authority to counteract it.
there are automation/ease advantages in having your cloud provider be your DNS provider.
it does lock you into their automation and any stupid DNS tricks that aren't RFC standards but do "work" in that environment.
robustness/resiliency does suffer a bit, in that you have both DNS and hosting fail with a provider failure. web browsers and apps will give a different user experience/error if you can resolve the DNS name but be unable to get a working IP connection vs having DNS just SERVFAIL.
i do see more web/app folks that don't really understand DNS at all go for this all-in-one and who don't always understand what tradeoffs they are then living with.
jews have always understood that if anyone is persecuted, they'll be in line at some point; that if anyone is persecuted, everyone is in danger. that doesn't diminish the bravery. many folks see things they know are wrong and unjust, yet do nothing.
Just trying to spread the good word about IPv6. Member of an obscure technical group on the internet. Still remember when it was all the ARPANET.
