Ok. So, I have a very long in the tooth Kindle Paperwhite.

What other eReaders are there that have similar features, aren't tied to Amazon, and still allow reading of ePub, PDF, etc., have a long battery life, and still use the eInk display?

While I'm tempted to just stick with Amazon's device for a refresh of my decade old Paperwhite, before I do that, let's see what other people like.

I use the Paperwhite specifically because it's distraction free, so features like "good web browser" aren't tempting. Ability to just send books to the device via eMail (or Calibre compatibility) is ideal. As is having an app on iOS that automatically keeps in sync for location.
