If I "compromise" on this issue, what's next? Toss trans people under the bus so the party gains more seats? Human rights are nonnegotiable as they are the foundation for all other policy.

Tesla's Self Drive would be banned if the US followed the safety standards used by the EU. Running over a few kids and slamming into school busses is a price Tesla is willing to pay. The Ford Pinto of our times. Investment in mass transit would eliminate all the problems of safety and surveillance that comes with self driving.
