@liztai US Senator Mark Warner and other have started saying the TikTok ban is about stopping Chinese "propaganda". Apparently, it wasn't about national security after all, but stopping citizens from hearing other voices. They are already talking about a Red Note ban.

@notroot I see that Mark Cuban may become an investor in the AT Platform and a TikTok alternative. When I signed up at Bluesky, I gave it two years before I would delete it in disgust. I may have been overly optimistic.

I also read (not yet confirmed) that the Isntrealis have invested in Red Note, so you can expect any pro-Palestine discussions to disappear.

If it is profit driven, it will eventually shitify.

@nixCraft China has declared all government computers will be free of Windoze by 2026. I'm hoping their switch to KylinOS will be enough to break the Windoze-vendor software tie-in. I will be using Win 10 for that one program I need for work until it is so broken it won't work at all. Even then, I distrust M$ so much, I disconnect from the internet.

@eff This takes me back to the early days of Linux when Microsoft used constant threats of patent lawsuits (FUD) over two or three lines of code to try and stifle open source growth.
