@Sarahp Skylight has one very significant flaw which makes me predict it will have a difficult time being able to get those users to stick around.

Namely that it is really just an app that shows Bluesky content in a slightly different way. Bluesky content (even when filtering for just the videos) just isn't really the kind of content a Tik Tok user would expect.

A model where the platform is able to focus on its own body of content would work better. Something like @loops

@brianstever The forkiverse is running mastodon so you are on Mastodon with the account you have there. Here's me replying to you from the mastodon.social instance!

Your login is just to that one instance (theforkiverse) but with that account you can interact with any fediverse platforms whether it's other Mastodon instances, Pixelfed, Lemmy or whatever.

@dansup Love the update, been waiting for this. I will say it crashes when I go to the profile view on my Android phone but luckily that's not something I'd do often anyway.

@dansup Yeah, transparency instead of black boxes is one important aspect of this and your graphic describing the Loops algorithm was the first time I've seen a real effort to bring transparency to one.

@dansup recommend installing a browser extension such as Form History Control to solve this for all websites in general

@MastodonEngineering please prioritise the existing work being done to backfill previously unseen profiles with actual posts. Just seeing profiles without posts is a huge issue with the current UX.

@dansup looking forward to it, I imagine it'll be a major improvement for Loops.

@dansup like others I don't really buy it either that this is "sawing off the branch" but an optional way to have them seems like a win-win to me so I think it's a good way to respond.

@dansup NeoDB really deserves more attention, would love to see an instance that is unambiguously for english language users since I don't think that still really exists.

@dansup good to have a presence there so the people who are looking at the Bluesky related alternatives will also see Loops.

@dansup potentially https://www.jamendo.com/ which has been around for a long time and hosts creative commons licensed music. They seem to have some kind of a paid licensing thing these days so it's no longer purely that but you can still see what licenses the music uploaded there has. @dansup @trankten @Skivling You kept your word even though some may have doubted it despite the prior evidence of you being a good actor.

Unfortunately I believe it has happened that less ethical devs have misled people that way so the idea in the screenshot isn't entirely wrong. Just missing the part that some people can in fact be trusted more than others.

I imagine you've earned more trust in the eyes of some that used to doubt you now too.

@fediversereport The only version of the events of that meeting I've heard was that the letter wasn't really even discussed and that it was supposed to be done at the next one. Do you have a different version of events you're basing what you wrote here on?

I also don't think "bikeshedding" is an accurate way to describe the comments Evan Prodromou has made about the statement and it seems unfair to single him out when he seems to have been far from the only person who had reservations about it.

@dansup hadn't even considered that Skylight might be closed before... that's a great point. Wonder if all the other heavily marketed Bluesky offshoots like Flashes etc. are too.

This sounds like they're turning TikTok into a MAGA propaganda platform like X but via direct government control instead of a crazy fascist billionaire...

@jrose @mcc Even the portability being better is somewhat theoretical right now because if your identity is using did:plc then you are unable to move away from did:plc and Bluesky PBC has custody of your keys... And also like people have noticed hosting your own data in a PDS does not really make you independent from their actions so the point of doing it is somewhat unclear.

Bluesky really isn't liking this post by the CEO. Didn't see a single comment agreeing.

I don't condone political violence but I do get the frustration from people over this. This is the BS leadership trying to seem neutral in the same way they were when they welcomed JD Vance.
