@aral Codeberg do Forgejo, right? I actually just installed that as my own git repository. It's a bit isolated at the moment, but what I understand is that they are working on implementing ActivityPub to federate instances of Forgejo (what the codeberg site is). This feels like the way forward, as the attacks on one server would have very little impact, since users, projects, and even clones, would be spread around all over.

@samuteki Google, Facebook, and Amazon, all started with massive grants, and were all financially propped up for a decade too, despite them all constantly making a financial loss. This was until they killed the competition and stole the majority of the pie. Non of those should actually exist. Their existence is even a distortion of capitalism.

@BeAware Being on Mastodon / Fedi for almost a year now, it actually took me a while to understand how hashtags are used. Whereas on other platforms they're used more expressively as content keywords - here, they tend to have very specific meanings and used more for organizing / filtering. That means that random tags have no purpose, and most people commonly use a set of specific tags. So, with that, yes, I like your idea. Perhaps a tabbed dropdown, like the emoji one, to select common tags.

@BeAware @tymonbrown Bluesky must have spent millions on marketing. They must have been sending out press releases to mainstream media all over as well, because it was even being mentioned on BBC News on TV, and other mainstream channels news slots (over THAT week).

@dougiec3 @roknrol Because I'm autistic, I'm sensitive to sound anyway, and have always found understanding people on TV and movies difficult at times. But I find subtitles distracting as well. So, I route the audio from my TV through a compressor and EQ. The compressor squashes it so the dialogue, music and sound effects are a similar level. Then the EQ takes away frequencies around 500hz where voices sounds muffled. Then up around 4khz where voices generally have clarity #actuallyautistic

@BeAware I massively appreciate the reply ๐ and one of the reasons I love the fedi is because people on here are so willing to assist others. So thank you. But, I did mean this as a little light humour to be honest, since it's not really used much - as favoriting is the exact same feature, but bookmarking doesn't notify the original poster, right? To be fair, I only started my Fediverse adventure this last summer, installing my own instance, and still quite new - so i'll give you a follow ๐

After using #Mastodon for a little bit now, I decided to actually press the mysterious "Bookmark" button to see what it did. I was nervous, hovering the pointer over it for a moment, feeling my heart beating faster, and then.. "click". I did it! ... Suddenly... a portal opened up in front of me. These weird alien chicken like creatures came out of it, which then jumped out of the window, and the portal disappeared. Everything was silent again. I still don't know what that button is actually for.

@dansup I think when your day job becomes something that is a necessary chore, having to be undertaken to survive life, - BUT, something to get out of the way, so that you can get on with your 'real work' - indicates that you've found your purpose in life and the reason for your own existence. And your existence is making a real difference. All that time and energy you put into pixelfed and loops, when you could have been watching netflix or playing playstation. Massive respect Dan, always X
