@josh0 @skinnylatte I’m not much of an expert on BART, if I could hazard a guess I’m wondering if the voice is being generated by an old school chipset at the station, which would imply station by station upgrades. Are the Passenger Displays on the platforms still using small incandescent lights? That isn’t related, but it is a curiosity.

@skinnylatte Strange fact: BART train tracks are not standard gauge (distance between the rails) so other trains cannot easily use those tracks, everything is a bit custom. https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2022/news20220708-2

@skinnylatte I wonder if they are on the original system. What I noticed, way back when, was BART seemed to still be running on Day 1 systems and not refreshing stuff.

Average Person: There is no solution to The Trolley Problem.

Rail Geek: It is possible to set the switch to a position where the Trolley derails. While imperfect, it allows for the possibility of no deaths.

@Jason844 @bojacobs Appreciate the pointer. Your analysis seems very sound. I would be curious how many were new, versus new to their current job. Seems like the cuts didn’t take into account that probation can mean a new employee, or an experienced employee in a new job. 😬

@bojacobs In case you haven’t seen it, pretty sure those NNSA cuts were at Pantex, Hanford, Savannah River, and ORNL. Got the impression a lot of them were at Pantex 😬

@skinnylatte I was under the impression that getting up there is difficult and involves trespassing. But, that isn’t based on research so much as hearsay.

@bojacobs @sts I could be wrong, but it seemed the focus of Civil Defense during this era was on “you can survive and things would be ok again” but when seriously considered it became “we may survive, most are dead, everything is in ruins, and ok will not return for generations, if ever.” I also question the belief that one week was enough for anything approaching safety.
