@Raccoon I have a test instance that I will enable limited federation on.
I would love to know if there are any big instances that do this already.

I'm beginning to wonder if the only solution to hate speech and harassment on the Fediverse might be allowlist-only instances.
And that might have to start with mastodon dot social itself.
What if rather than devoting time and energy playing whack-a-mole with every new instance that is spun up, a trusted group of people maintained and monitored a central list of allowed instances who have committed to a core set of values and show a good-faith effort to uphold those as much as their resources allow? The anti-Oliphant.
I have never been a large community moderator, so I imagine there are all kinds of flaws with this idea.
Does anybody *know of* any "successful" existing allowlist-only instances?
@heidilifeldman l topped up #m4hTopUp #MastodonForHarris #USPol
@tchambers @heidilifeldman Frustrating that there are now two competing hashtags.
@tchambers @heidilifeldman That said, the “4” hashtag is #3 trending on my instance, and #8 trending on mastodon dot social.
@heidilifeldman I love your bold leap to half a million!! You’re gonna make it
Manually managing the domains you block is absolutely no substitute for actually good moderation tools, where #Mastodon has a lot of work to do.
But in the meantime, if your instance doesn't have a good blocklist, you can upload this CSV to your "Domain blocking list" at example.social/settings/imports to block some of the worst instances:
I like that the @SoraSNS #Mastodon app has algorithmic feeds. But the UI is visually overwhelming and constantly thrashing due to content updates and image and link preview loading.
Sorry, the "#brat" color is not "chartreuse"; it's "pistachio green" (Werner), "strong greenish yellow" (ISCC-NBS), "inch worm" (Pantone), or "cosse green" (Ridgway).
Maybe stay off social media tonight
@BeAware Re: “News spreads fast” — the telegraph introduced to the world the *light-speed travel* of information. Certainly the internet *also* does that, but the telegraph was the first to do it. I didn’t live through it of course but that is mind-boggling.
@BeAware The internet certainly is more powerful than all of them combined, but the question isn’t which would have changed the world the most in a vacuum, in the absence of the other three, or which we would choose if we could only have one. The question is which one most altered the world that it entered.
@pfefferle What I mean is, I thought domains had to be moderator-approved for those author chips to show up? Is your domain approved?
@pfefferle How did you get your domain approved?
@BeAware Yeah, bridging is not federation.
@BeAware As a technology, ATProto is very interesting to me, but I think we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out. It hasn’t really delivered on its promise yet the way ActivityPub has.
