@freemo That's the great thing about the fediverse. You can cut them completely out of your social media experience. However if they brought in some heavy must follows it might prove difficult.
This will not sit well with some. There is a business case for a commercial Mastodon/Firefish instance. With the proper promotion and access to all the free content available on the fediverse, it's more than viable. Someday for better or worse it's going to happen.
@feditips And if you're on 4.2 try search. It works wonderfully well. Also opt into search. You're not supporting surveillance capitalism if you do, you're just making it easier for everyone here to discover your content.

One thing to note about opting into search is that it will make your posts more discoverable to others outside our instance which in a lot of cases is a good thing as friends can find friends, etc. However if you feel that you are in a vulnerable group that may be subject to abuse you may want to consider staying opted out. Please DM me if you have questions.
If you have a toddler(s) , I know you're tired, busy, stressed and probably frustrated but please, please take my word for it and cherish every single moment. I mean it, every single one.

@thomasfuchs I somewhat agree but I also think it's a deferment of the issue to simply say it's societal. I myself am now going to bring up the issue with my transport clients and see what they're doing to move in this direction. I'm also going to try and get a sense of what the actual challenges are and focus on that when advocating for change. It's time for real world action. I do however thank you for bringing to light the macro issue, it was helpful.
@thomasfuchs I don't think I said it was impossible, actually I believe it's very possible. I'm just pointing out the challenges. It's easy to throw out blanket solutions, it's harder to speak to how it's actually going to get done. Until you start discussions around the challenges it's navel gazing.
@thomasfuchs You could do that, but I simply don't think there's enough zero emissions heavy truck manufacturing capacity available at this time to meet that kind of forklift style approach. You'd need to start at with manufacturers, maybe mandating a certain amount of capacity be dedicated to zero emissions. You can't force a trucking company to buy a truck that's not available. Also if you don't address the power grid you're just shifting emissions elsewhere.
@thomasfuchs Without doing any research I see power generation as the lower hanging fruit here. I Beleive the trucking industry really wants to shift to a zero emissions infrastructure on its own (cost of fuel is a huge input for them) but there are a lot of practical deal breakers right now. The first being supply of heavy electric vehicles and battery maintenance.
@kelownagurl@GhostOnTheHalfShell@Flipboard Maybe @mike@flipboard.social could send us a list of flipboard desk accounts? These accounts curate posts from across the fediverse under different categories, so following them gives you a curated feed of sorts. The one I sent you is the general flipboard account.
