Reminder: In 3 years less than it has taken SpaceX to achieve this pitiful result, the Apollo program designed, built, tested & launched space vehicles which brought men into space a dozen times, including 6 successful Moon landings - and they did it without all the foreknowledge we have today & without computers, because they created both those things as part of the program.

It's almost like commercial motivation + the world's worst leadership = shitty results...

No, I'm not an engineer. I'm just not an idiot. Google has almost 200K employees & while most of them are there to lie to you, at least thousands are engineers keeping the lights on. And that's with their tech planted firmly on the ground & accessible 24/7.

The idea that they can do this with somewhere between zero & "how many people can fit in one rocket & when is the next launch window?" employees is preposterous.

No, seriously - a lot of people have utterly nonsensical ideas about wealth.

Just today I talked to a guy who believes we can't ask a billionaire to give money to charity until every single one of us does so, too - as if asking one multi-billionaire to give one of their billions to a worthy cause is the same as asking 10 million people to give 100$ each.

I confess I could barely begin describing to him why or how much he was wrong.

@thomasfuchs Well, I don't have all your use cases but I replaced Dropbox with NextCloud & I'm perfectly happy with it. Pretty sure it can be set up for various sync options but I don't even use photo sync from my phone so can't speak to that - but integration between Mac, iPhone & Droid has given me zero problems so far (about 1,5 years in).

I don't selfhost BTW; my host is thegood.cloud, but SH is obviously an option with NC.

@zackwhittaker Correction: It's not a bug & the AI wasn't "tricked". It worked exactly like it was supposed to - Meta just didn't care to consider that anyone could ask it to do so.

It's a tech bug in the same sense that a person plowing a pickup truck through a kindergarten is the car's fault.

@lauren Absolutely. The problem: Rich people aren't held accountable anymore, period. Enron is probably the last time corporate malfeasence had any direct consequences for the capital class & this is no coincidence - it was very clearly their takeaway from that case that they had to make sure this never happened to them again & their investment in regulatory & legal capture continues to this day, because it works. If you're rich enough, no law is enforceable, no crime is punishable.
