I'm hanging onto the anger stage of grief. It brings clarity. It tells me I need to get a gun for the first time in my 52 years on Earth.

It tells me this is a sea change in the American identity, itself. Even if democracy didn't die, the idea that, "We're better than this," was certainly beheaded in an embarrassingly public fashion.

I've been impressed with AOC, but after the last two failed elections, we all know the fucking reality: we need a Great White Hope. White, male, wealthy, middle-aged, and straight. With no skeletons in the closet.

So, again, this is why I'm hanging onto the Anger stage. It brings ugly clarity. Clarity we need. Clarity that disgusts me, but I have to stare it in the face.

To win the US Presidency, we need a straight, wealthy white man. That's the only way we CAN win.

In that sense, I embrace populism as part of a strategy, if it's used like a tactic. Obviously that's what America is in the mood for right now. We gotta read the room, somehow, and put together a groundswell candidate. Someone everyone left of Manchin can accept.

But of course I'm dreaming. America is a nation of mostly garbage people at this point. Ignorant scum who KNEW who Trump was, and voted for him, anyway. Or stayed home pouting over their single issue.

The best thing we can do now is burrow into our community civic structure and work to change hearts and minds.

Political change always follows social change. It's up to us to do that part. And we are! We're just... losing.
