@sickburnbro With cars it's especially rough because I won't buy a car that doesn't prioritize me/my wife over every other living creature. I'm fine with it making a safe attempt at stopping, but I'm not paying tens of thousands of dollars to be ethics-theory'd off a bridge. And while plenty of internet ethicists will claim otherwise, they aren't likely to do so either.
As for the Speech-to-Text stuff, I use it a lot for synced lyrics for songs, but it's spotty enough that it almost always requires checking. Still speeds up the process about a ton though. Because now it's two listens instead of fifty. So the liability should still be on the person knowingly trusting an 80-95% accurate STT model instead of doing an initial transcript and a second listen to correct mistakes.
And the constant grant writing olympics is a hard science problem often even moreso than for soft sciences. It's way before we even start talking about ideologs and institutional capture (which is rapidly becoming a hard science problem due to the politics of the grant process, but that's a very long discussion).
@sickburnbro Can you link the thread? I've been looking for more on the ground info on the Springfield situation. (I'm scrolling the timeline so maybe it's linked already)
@deprecated_ii I do think there's an IQ bottom-end where people just can't hold enough in their brains to work an effective rate/make good project-wide decisions about code and I tend to wonder if those are the people who make posts like that.
It's definitely a separate phenomenon from the constant programmer sperging that gets us a new clever-and-useless concept or language every week. Those guys are just bored autists. But the "remembering is hard people" might just be stupid. Or, average.
@Bad_Banner As parts of the DarkWeb go (DeepWeb is stuff behind logins and paywalls 🤓, technically the darkweb could count as deepweb, it's nerd shit to care), TOR is very, very sanitized. Even beyond that Feds are all over the place on the Dark Web now so everything's very different than it used to be in the early 2000s.
If you want more shit to bop around on, check out I2P, Hyphanet, and Tribler. There are some other ones, but, again, generally that era of the darkweb is over, broadly speaking. Real stuff is much more vetted, much more P2P, much more private. You will still find the low-level operators out there posting cheese pizza and offering hitman services. But that's all feds and people stupid or desperate enough to get caught by feds.
@sickburnbro@Scot_Paladin@matty@mommabear333 I clicked on this thread expecting pictures of women playing volleyball and now I'm daydrinking and threatening the neighbor with a hedge trimmer. Thanks for nothing.
@sickburnbro I read that bit and I agree with him. Still I doubt it would get through to women without having a giant landing strip that says "TELL YOUNG GIRLS TO FIND A MAN AT CHURCH (or somewhere similarly reliable), MARRY, AND HAVE KIDS." My faith in women to understand things without explicit and repeated direct explanation, and I love my wife, is basically nil.
@sickburnbro The best thing they could do, aside from nothing, is to willingly serve as a warning to the women who come behind them. They bought into the lie of no consequences and they're doing to suffer in their old age for it. That's just reality. If they feel any contrition at all, they will warn the girls who still have chance.
But they won't. So hopefully they at least shut the fuck up and have a little dignity.
I think the "nothing ever happens" meme, as a general concept, is more meant to evoke the concept that their lives will not be meaningfully impacted and even if it is no one is going to do anything about it. Starbucks will be open. The comfort malaise will continue because everyone who could meaningfully change anything is too complacent and otherwise comfortable to care, actively an enemy to fixing the happening, or wrapped up in wife/job/kids and terrified of making their lives harder than the thing itself. And so, even if something "happens," nothing changes.
To take COVID as an example, since it was raised, everyone was fairly confident it would end. That it was a minor annoyance that would last a few months, and we'd be back to normal. EVEN THEN people organized against it, but they were mocked in every corner of media-driven life and compliant when pushed with threats of arrest or a sick loved one they wanted to visit. The regimes pushed this until they realized people were going to start actively doing anything to stop it and we were granted a reprieve, with feelers being sent out to see if people could be scared back into compliance every so often.
Now. I think if that is attempted again. Or a draft is called for this Israeli farce, "something" might happen, with regards to western countries. I am fully on board for that pushing back. Vaccines will not be complied with for large swaths of people. Mask mandates will not be complied with. I'd expect serious violence in the case of a draft. They sank that ship. But, until there's a draft or another lockdown or a convincing enough false flag on US soil to get the Southern whites riled up, nothing is happening even if things that are potential precursors to the thing happening are happening.
It's not to say don't be ready for something to happen. Train every day. Prepare your family. Understand your plan. But, if you're not executing the plan or at least having hard discussions with the wife and family about what the costs are going to be, nothing's happening. Not yet. And while I will gladly admit there are a ton of sparks flying around, but most sparks don't end up starting fires.
Okay, schizo rant over. I'm gonna go back to anime tits now. That's my preferred avenue. Please forgive any misspellings or nonsense sentences, I wrote this with no socks on.
@sickburnbro I have a friend who used to teach. He refuses to admit that school is both unnecessary and one of the most detrimental things we do to children. We literally throw them into this monstrous hierarchy of moronic, moody women who threaten their entire future and teen hormone pecking orders. And they don't even learn well, most of them.
Especially males, because asking them to sit perfectly still for 8 hours a day during their most formative years, to never feel aggression or annoyance or anger, fucks them up. They either become emasculated and cuck to the arbitrary authority structure (the goal) or they act out and fail and then struggle forever because college and "we're a family" office jobs are purpose designed to keep the same structure from cradle to grave.
