@kolev I'm new to this site you linked to and new to this concept in general. Specifically, this idea of software being "free" (open). The article you linked to is a bit meandering and I admit I've read it a few times top to bottom and I’m still not entirely sure what it expects me to do. I’ll start by saying I have some imported js libraries (e.g. jquery, lunr.js, particles.js, etc…) which I've tried to keep enumerated here https://shellsharks.com/.well-known/pubvendors.json

@kolev Beyond that, my in-line .js is not “packaged” in such a way that it would be easy to export, modify and re-deploy per-say as it is a bit haphazardly used from page to page, but it certainly isnt, as a matter of function, something that is invasive, or used to track/snoop/etc… I use it to show/hide some page elements or to do some crummy searching, but nothing devious in nature.

This is something that I've bookmarked though and want to look more into how to become "compliant" as it were 👍

TL;DR: You don't need anything fancy to "IndieWeb”. Just get a domain. Find a place to host it. Post your stuff there.

I think a threads post *could* be boosted by a Fedi account that would then be bridged to Bsky via Bridgy Fed.

But I don't think it's possible for a Threads account to bridge themselves to Bsky because up until recently, they haven't been able to follow the @bsky.brid.gy account. And even now, they could only follow it, if that account explicitly responded to one of their posts, which I'm pretty sure hasn’t/won't happen. So still impossible I think…

@mttaggart @BeAware Yeah, I think the only people excited about Threads <—> Fedi interoperability are (in this order)...

1. Evan Prodromou
2. Evan Prodromou
3. Fedi-native *creators* who wouldn't mind access to the large audience that Threads would bring
4. Other random #openweb folks
5. People who would love to be parts of communities that aren't represented well here (i.e. sports, local groups, etc)

Yeah, I listed Evan twice 🤣

Kinda don't see too many folks leaving for threads at this point

and by "did it”, I mean so far they've done the barest of minimums here. From what I can tell, this new “advance” has the following limitations

- You can only follow fedi accounts that have responded to something you've posted from Threads
- You cant search for fedi accounts
- You can't reply to or repost stuff from Fedi
- You can't link to your fedi profile in a Threads post
- You don't see fedi accounts you're following your following list
- I don't see my Fedi posts in my Threads timeline

@BeAware Ah yeah. I mean I think theres "reasons" why they are rolling it out slowly, but you know, you KNOW there will be a compromise (or slew of compromises) somewhere. I never really expected a full, no-compromise implementation of AP, but I think if they can get it to a state where people there can really follow and respond to people here, then that's pretty good. Super double bonus points if they actually allow people to move from Threads to traditional Fedi, bringing their following along

@deivudesu @jakelazaroff @carnage4life @mekkaokereke Though very simplistic, Mastodon does at least have "lists". A feature one could use to replicate some of what Bluesky does. But even though I love my chrono feed here and have spent a long time making it very high fidelity, I've always said that choice and power features are better. The ability for people to have algo feeds or design their own feed programmatically would make this network so much more powerful.

This *is* an elegant way to "verify" someone, but only if they *have* a website and really only if that website is kinda *known* as being officially associated with that individual. How would this form of verification help like, Brad Pitt? Does he have a website? I feel like most celebrities kinda just don't. Sure, for media orgs or even maybe politicians this might help, but for too many (actors, athletes, etc...), this is a very exclusionary, tech-centric way to verify

@ssweeny @ernie @bookwyrm Agreed. Starter packs and domains as identity are perfecto. Two things that would be game changing for the Fediverse. Two biggest detractors of Mastodon/Fedi have always been what server to join and then how to discover people and be discovered by others. Having your identity tied to a domain instead of a server could partially help with what server to join, as then server choice only becomes an issue of moderation. Starter packs help with discoverability.

@AkaSci @tchambers @Gargron A few things...

- Improve discoverability: Starter packs, custom lists, opt-in/buildable feeds ("algos”), bsky has these of course

- Improve identity/account portability: Bskys domain as identity is genius and would help here. But the common folk still aren't going to have a domain to use. Generally, improving the onboarding process, i.e. server selection would go a long way

- Celebrities: We need more “big" accounts to come here

- Probably moderation improvements

@Gargron What I want most most most is just the ability to post more than 500 chars at a time. Just make this something customizable by an admin! Pweeeez! I am too verbose for only 500 chars most of the time! 😅

Edit: I'm aware of glitch-soc. I'm on a managed, vanilla-masto instance 😭

I know #threads is a polarizing subject here on Fedi but news is news…

Threads has enabled #Fediverse-bourne replies. i.e. you can now reply to federated Threads posts and those replies show up actually on Threads.

Kinda neat to see my Fedi profile show up natively on that platform. It even creates a clickable handle on the reply post that links to my Masto profile.

#threads #Fediverse There are a lot of peculiarities still with the entirety of Meta's Fediverse integration, but the (somewhat) steady rollout of additional functionality is in my mind promising, at least for those who look forward to or are at least ambivalent to bridging traditional Fedi and the threadsland.

One example (of said peculiarities) is searching for and replying to threads-bourne posts is often problematic due to content fetching issues with Mastodon. Things will improve in time
