@NorthantsGreens @BeAware Speaking of threads, I ran into something baffling last night. Went to follow ghosts official thing out of curiousity (similar to substack) and got a the administrators of ppb.social have blocked limited it. Was like what? Not done anything to threads. Have a couple accounts I followed already that were still showing up on my feed. Was very confused.

@BeAware Exactly. They are paid to take order/possibly fixing and bagging the food, and setting on counter or handing it directly thru drive thru window. I forget where but my wife came across an article where most of those places that prompt tip actually none of that goes to anyone but the business itself or the processor. But I can't find it right off as she sent it to me 3-4 months ago or more.

@BeAware This may be unpopular, but places like that, or fast food get no tips from me at the counter. Now if I do something like a doordash/instacart/or pre pandemic (we are high risk and don't go in to eat these days) at a sit down restaurant....I tip I still tip the later in cases someone runs it out to the car. I do make exceptions on others in cases where someone goes above and beyond, something crazy happened, etc.

@BeAware Then why even say "bye"??? I mean seriously if they never interacted with you that seems like a waste of time for you and them.

@BeAware Agreed, I'm a total introvert (and cliche "IT vampire" [as in I don't get out much lol]). But I don't mind saying hello and chatting with people in the Fedi.

@Techmeme So if they screw up and post source code, license key, etc for anyone to see is it fair game?

@BeAware I find it mostly ironic after the big deal for the twitter and reddit migrations that had big traffic hashtags here in the fediverse. Now granted some communities on both did not migrate, but there's a lot out there to browse.

@BeAware I think it's they wanna try to figure out how monopolize it or monetize it. But yeah, wish they'd just treat it as an full instance and maybe look at their own appeal as it could talk with their other platforms. That's how they should worry about keeping what they want. A fediverse instance that can talk with Instagram and maybe facebook users. Boom! here would eb the appeal for most users.

@BeAware It's not in their interests to unfortunately. If Meta fully integrates threads and people start noticing they can converse in or out of threads and not have to put up with the ads etc they might decide to hop on another fediverse instance. Then Meta (or really any big platform) has lost it's real product, the user data and eyeballs for ads. So they just piecemeal, pr step things to look cool and being at the forefront and try to maintain their mostly islands.

@BeAware I still don't understand "limited replies." There is mute, block, filters, and I'm pretty sure you mute a conversation. Just seems redundant.

@BeAware if one of the code bases allowed it, in theory you could either add an option or modify block to deal with mac/ip address and not just the user name of the instance. But I'm not sure if any othe stacks (mastodon, pixelfed,sharkey, miskey, etc etc) support any of that or if activitypub itself does

@BeAware Isn't this redundant? I mean you can mute/block someone and you don't see anything from them? Other than potentially making a choice for someone else too. Also is it opt-in or opt-out?🤔

@BeAware Not me, the pro max/pluses are too big for my taste. the pro is about as big as I can deal with. I really preferred the slightly smaller that was about a finger width shorter, though I got used to it.

@BeAware That sucks, so far mine is running same speed. But I recall seeing that in past betas, some having same battery, others draining. Some getting slowdowns, others it runs great. It's very weird.

@BeAware yeah sounds about right. Though I bet like several things they have limited it would probably work on a model or two below that. I will probably wait to upgrade unless my phone croaks. More worried on my wife's croaking. She loves her iphone 8 plus, but at some point it's going to croak.

@BeAware iphone 13 pro here. But yes might be a good time if you have an older one, especially if you wanna really rock the ai features they will be dropping in. I imagine that will be a bit intensive and might be restricted to certain 18 compatible models at least maybe for some features.
