Well...even Fediverse isn't immune to enshittification.

I have a feeling it'll be a LOT less social here once Mastodon implements this...🤦♂️🤬

My plan is to be off this ridiculous software before they implement such stupid things.

I thought this was SOCIAL Media, not "yell into the void" Media.

@BeAware Isn't this redundant? I mean you can mute/block someone and you don't see anything from them? Other than potentially making a choice for someone else too. Also is it opt-in or opt-out?🤔

@stefan @ppb1701 🤷♂️it's social media. Mute the conversation.

There's ways that don't hinder people's ability to be social or to contradict misinformation, which will undoubtedly be running rampant here once this gets implemented...😬🤦♂️

@BeAware @ppb1701 If your post gets popular, you might have to mute/block a lot of people one at a time.

Some of the most popular posts on here have hundreds of replies.

@xepher @marathon I like Sharkey. It's quite lacking in documentation, but the features are really nice. Also, Akkoma and akkomane seem pretty good but I haven't dabbled in them yet.

@BeAware @marathon @Gargron Any other specific fediverse platforms you're actively looking at? I've tried a few, but keep coming back to Mastodon as it seems to be the most mature with features that I care about.

@BeAware Maybe. And you can unfollow those who opt to use the feature.

In theory, I can see I would want to have a conversation with people with who we follow each other and avoid spam/spambots. In theory.

But given the population on Mastodon, I don’t expect it’s needed and muting/blocking is quite enough.

@marathon @xepher kinda useless it is, then. Sorry to burst the bubble, but this image kinda confirms it. They're separate functions that can't be used together...not sure how both protocols would co-exist on the same server tbh considering they both use Webfinger for username propagation.🤷♂️

The Mastodon API doesn't integrate ActibityPub by itself, that's why there's a line going down to ActivityPub. The API just allows Soapbox/Ditto to work withapps built specifically for Mastodon.

Which at this point is not even the case. Ditto can work with the official Mastodon client, but they've confirmed themselves in Nostr posts it's not working with other Mastodon apps. I attempted to use it with Mona for iOS and the nsec bunker login never works. Not sure why that is.

      i disagree

i won't use the feature, but plenty of other people don't want to deal with reply guys

and if someone uses the feature and it pisses you off, block/ mute/ unfollow/ ignore/ whatever

      what's the big deal?

i agree it makes a mockery of the word "social" in social media, but if someone wants a soapbox without a response, that's their style, i don't like it, but i don't see a problem with allowing them their style. i think they will suffer for it. but again, their choice

@BeAware good point about the misinfo. but then a prime vector for misinfo is zero follower reply guys hitching a ride on big accounts

and moderation is good enough here I don't think it will mean much if some zero follower account starts broadcasting crap without an ability to reply. you can't reply but you can still report

and any account that turns it on will suffer in follower count so it wont be popular. I disagree a majority will do so. Who I see doing it are people who are harassed

      a question though:

Is this feature per post or per user?

If it's per user that's lame

If it's per post I can see everyone, including you and me, occasionally using it, for example, if we want to post something bad happened in our lives and we don't want to deal with any possible griefers
