@_elena mastodon caches everything you see, that's why I've set my retention rate so low. But if you don't have a relay server connected like I have (something that "forcefully" connects you to other active servers) it shouldn't be that much. It could be that Bridgy Fed does that or that GoToSocial has something like that built in?
@_elena enjoy the search 🧐 maybe as reference: My mastodon DB with 1 user is 12GB, and my server has a very low content retention time (7 days for remote images)
@_elena hey, we could maybe learn things together! I'm currently trying to get some information with this post, but since my reach is pretty low I'm not getting any help: https://existiert.ch/@leberschnitzel/113722434263778954 Maybe some of the possible replies could help you too if you boost it 👉👈
Fedivers, I need your help! 🧵 I have ~20 years experience with Microsoft and I want to get the "same" knowledge ASAP for Linux, specifically Ubuntu based distributions. I'll go about the details in this thread and you could help me on my tiny instance with a boost to get some reach and maybe get some help! Some things I'm asking might not make sense so feel free to correct me or add other hashtags in replies :chyeah: #linux#ubuntu#help#training#teaching#knowledge#knowhow 1/5
@_elena ah interesting, I always wondered what those instances with reactions are! I'll have to check out sharkey and misskey and see if I can set up my own server and maybe migrate my mastodon to it and shut down my mastodon. Since it's only me here that shouldn't be a problem. Maybe I have to use an temporary home for my account while I do that though. The "Tweetdeck" style UI is also available on native mastodon btw, you can change to it in your settings with "Enable advanced web interface"
@_elena I'm not here for a long time, so I actually might have been mistaken with my comment: It seems like the language applies only to posts in public timelines. So when I set the option to "German", I'll still see all posts made in French by people that I follow, but when I go to a public live feed it'll filter out everything but German 🤔 I'll have to investigate!
@_elena you'll probably get a million comments on that: You can change the used language in your toots, then you don't have to add content warnings and only people that want to see that language (they can select different languages they want to see in the options) will see it. Some apps don't seem to have that option sadly, so just ignore this if you use one of those.
@_elena the curls I find also neat but I just noticed I don't see them on the web-page when I test it, and that's why I felt it's a bit less interesting. If that works in your software it would really be a nice addition though.
@_elena let me compare them quickly... well no they are quite different, but I feel like "Eighties Comeback" has a more unique feel to it, so I think you made a good choice by just taking that one. On the other hand: It's Christmas soon!
#mastodon maybe someone can help me: I often see toots in my timeline and reply, just to notice afterwards that when I look at the original post that there are already plenty of replies and some exactly the same as mine. Is there a way to configure my instance so it also pulls replies, latest when I click on a toot?
