I really want to learn to write a DOS sound driver so I can do something like Zone 66 or PPZ8 (on the PC98) did and have multiplexed drums/similar on the PCM channel.
A lot of western gamedevs/demosceners went for "use the PCM as a codec for mod players in software" route instead, while Japan's method is more associated with arcade games and the distinct sound used in later PC-98 games.
Nintendo is still DMCAing emulators and fangames.I think people really need to apply the lawnmower analogy when it comes to Nintendo lawyers. Nintendo lawyers literally don't care about fair use or enjoying their games or emulation, they just want to mow the lawn.
Stop supporting and giving the time of day to a company that hates you. Instead, make games totally influenced by them but better. Look how fucking big Palworld got, we need more of that.
This is by design of course. Windows never had a hardware cutoff this dramatic, there are tons of machines that came with 10 but either due to lacking a TPM or being before the hardware cutoff (Skylake, Excavator, etc.) they are Unsupported (tm) and you have to wrangle with it to keep getting updates.
There were a LOT of XP holdouts because XP quite frankly was the same as 7, it just worked for most people. Furthermore XP ran fast on a lot of low-spec hardware that 7 struggled on, and so on a C2D XP was crazy fast seemingly.
Sure it lacked 64-bit, 4GB+ RAM support, and the like, and the move to Vista/7 is what really made 64-bit Windows come into it's own.
@atlas@thonkbox.rightmouse.click Also what also happened in the late-XP era was the Netbook craze. Netbooks were too underpowered to properly run Vista 9 times out of 10, which led to the Netbooks getting a special ULCPC SKU which was identical to Home Edition with the restriction that you had to sell it on what Microsoft defined as a Netbook.
Of course Intel bungled that whole thing but that's another story IMO.
With Nitter now dead, it's time to do the world a favor. Post fedi links (not screencaps) into public chats, shill the fedi at every chance you get (preferably an instance that doesn't block 500+ instances), and most importantly try to get big names like artists and the like on fedi.
when I relaunch pawlicker.com on another shit tier lowendbox VPS I'm thinking about making a PC-98 braindump on shit I've learned about the PC-98 hardware over time, it'll just take a while due to anxiety and all.
