Dear @debby ,
can you please check out first our FAQ at https://eu-os.eu/faq#sovereignty
So far, #LinuxMint does not support #bootc, which EU OS relies on to enable collaboration through sharing of container layers.

What is incorrect? Can you be more specific?
#ReactOS uses US-based Github.

I think that's ok if the exit cost is low. Same for #EU_OS. Once people start using it, they may consider to have a build server in the EU. Do we now need to change the architecture because of this? I do not think so.
I think it would be helpful if in your text on your codeberg account, you introduce the problem better that you identified and how you think it should be solved.
I understand that you prefer if a legal entity is registered in the EU. I tell you that Microsoft has Microsoft Ltd. in Dublin. This alone is not enough to keep the exist costs low.
A number of bright people from across the world have thought previously about these questions. The outcome is #almalinux and #RockyLinux.
You write further "you want to be outside US jurisdiction?" It sounds as if I have written this somewhere. Did I?
Your proposals seem to promote protectionism. I like to find an approach that also works for South America/Africa/etc.
How many legal entities does the Linux kernel project require? One per continent? One per country?
So to have a debate on #DigitalSovereignty, the definition is of course important and I have no specific one to offer, because it is a difficult topic.
Obviously, the (implied) local jurisdiction is part of your definition.
How meaningful is this if all countries wanted to be digital sovereign? Think of horizontal projects such as systemd/kernel.
Currently, money and experts are rare and investments must be strategic. #EU_OS cannot fork everything.
We have an open PR in the EU OS gitlab at https://gitlab.com/eu-os/eu-os.gitlab.io/-/merge_requests/6 .
Why don't you collect the arguments there?
I am still afraid NixOS may not yet be battle-tested in the public sector. I'd like to add an example to https://eu-os.eu/use-cases#notable-migrations if you have one.
Who is using #NixOS on the desktop with some 1000 users in a corporate environment?
Please check on this matter:
I am glad that you ask. I argue that bootc is rather an installation/update method, but does not impact much otherwise. The rpms are still the same.
I never suggested to use fedora for production use, even though someone mailed me an example with a large-scale fedora deployment in the public sector in spain. Redhat/Almalinux are battle-tested (e.g. at CERN).
I know one or two people at the Commission passionate about Linux that indeed have small use cases for NixOS. Awesome! They have all my support!
To my knowledge, the use cases are not business critical.
It would be nice to learn more about the use of Target, Shopify and Mercury. Do you have sources? A blog post, Youtube video or something like this? Is it well Linux on the desktop? How many users? Only developers or also non-tech staff?
There are too many video conferencing systems and websites that rely on closed-source video codecs. I think the linux users within the public sector could not be cut off from such services. If linux users would be the majority, services would be incentives to rely on on open codecs, but this is currently not the case.

A loud part of the Fediverse (majority or not ๐คท) is afraid of federation with #threads. I disagree! For many organisations, this is a chance to escape the #networkeffect and improve #GDPR compliance. They can have a data-protection friendly presence in the #fediverse and still have followers who choose to have their accounts on #surveillanceCapitalism platforms. I hope that (a) Instagram accounts get also access to Fediverse content (b) they implement moving servers. ๐

I think the focus should be this degree of transparency in the public procurement of services from large-scale IT vendors #GAFAM. The spending is magnitudes higher.
@aral Is sending an email to Gmail equivalent with federating with #threads? #surveillanceCapitalism
