@thor @vriska Just keep plugging away at it when you can steal a few hours a day and you'll get there. Sometimes it helps to be able to sit on a scene and then it'll come more easily to write. If you spend a lot of time on social media, you have enough time to be plugging away at a novel IMO. Sometimes I have to pry myself away. Hope it works out when you get around to it.

I am reminded again why I wouldn't recommend minors being on fedi. They are just one short search away from finding sick fetishes even searching something innocuous. We have some sick fucks on here.

"- rape is usually perpetrated by family and friends, not "stranger danger""
Tell this to the hundreds of girls that have been groomed and raped by gangs and human traffickers. How do you think that strangers become friends? They begin by grooming, gaining your trust so that they can have access either to you or to your children which then makes them friends. I think we should be worried about stranger danger, by recognising this fact. Where I am, they didn't even properly research the gangs in their report so that they can claim that the problem comes from white people to keep the peace and avoid being seen as racist. In Africa, I read about a case where a woman was sex trafficked because her father couldn't afford to pay something, maybe like a tax or something. There really is a systemic sex trafficking issue that the reports are minimising.
I agree that there hasn't been proper justice when it comes to rape though. Hard to prove, harder to get it through the court system with all the people involved making decisions about it. So many (serial) rapists are allowed to walk the streets still.

@ageha @deadheat @Moon @augustus It's terrible how much I don't know about them tbh. I also don't know how much has changed in just under a hundred years because it seems like a different time now. It's insane the levels of change we see now.

@kaia @deadheat @augustus I dare not think about it. I'm glad she was beautiful though, and missed the fate she might have had with Edward who really was a womaniser.

@augustus @deadheat I bet you are able to relate with him now!
"In 1934, Adolf Hitler, in his ambition to link the British and German royal houses, asked Princess Victoria Louise to arrange a marriage between the 40-year-old Edward and her 17-year-old daughter, Frederica of Hanover, who was at boarding school in England. Her parents refused, due to the age gap, and Frederica instead married Paul of Greece."
Interesting fact.

@deadheat @augustus I guess you are right.
"After the war, his conduct began to give cause for concern; he engaged in a series of sexual affairs that worried both his father and the British prime minister, Stanley Baldwin."
"The new king showed impatience with court protocol, and caused consternation among politicians by his apparent disregard for established constitutional conventions. Only months into his reign, a constitutional crisis was caused by his proposal to marry Wallis Simpson, an American who had divorced her first husband and was seeking a divorce from her second."
"Later that year, the couple toured Nazi Germany, which fed rumours that he was a Nazi sympathiser. During the Second World War, Edward was at first stationed with the British Military Mission to France but after the fall of France was appointed Governor of the Bahamas. After the war, Edward spent the rest of his life in France."
Also, I wonder what he saw during the first world war. Or what he saw on his overseas tours.

@augustus @deadheat
"Edward's youngest brother, Prince John, died at the age of 13 on 18 January 1919 after a severe epileptic seizure. Edward, who was 11 years older than John and had hardly known him, saw his death as "little more than a regrettable nuisance". He wrote to his mistress of the time that "[he had] told [her] all about that little brother, and how he was an epileptic. [John]'s been practically shut up for the last two years anyhow, so no one has ever seen him except the family, and then only once or twice a year. This poor boy had become more of an animal than anything else.""
What a thing to say. This man also seems to have not had a good upbringing so I guess it isn't so surprising.

@deadheat @augustus "As was common practice with upper-class children of the time, Edward and his younger siblings were brought up by nannies rather than directly by their parents. One of Edward's early nannies often abused him by pinching him before he was due to be presented to his parents. His subsequent crying and wailing would lead the Duke and Duchess to send him and the nanny away. The nanny was discharged after her mistreatment of the children was discovered, and she was replaced by Charlotte Bill."
What a lovely nanny to be brought up with in the early years.

@augustus @deadheat "Though widely travelled, Edward shared a widely held racial prejudice against foreigners and many of the Empire's subjects, believing that whites were inherently superior. In 1920, on his visit to Australia, he wrote of Indigenous Australians: "they are the most revolting form of living creatures I've ever seen!! They are the lowest known form of human beings & are the nearest thing to monkeys.""
Quite the character.
