Tourism isn't super big. You'd think it would be, given that the area is in the Arctic and has fairly good infrastructure, given the circumstances.

There have been talks about extending the rail network up there for ages, but nothing ever materialises. It goes as far north as Narvik, with a connection to Sweden. So yes, you're always driving or flying to get out. It takes 2.5 hours to get to Oslo, the capital, from there.

@djsumdog I was born in the hospital there. I grew up in this town, a bit further north, of about 2000 people.

@djsumdog One thing to keep in mind is the Gulf Stream. Hot water from the Gulf of Mexico flows north and makes northern Europe warmer than you'd expect from the latitude.

@djsumdog There aren't many animals that far north that could kill you. There used to be polar bears at one point but they were hunted to extinction.

Paradox: The better your connections are, the less important it is to have money.

Also: Having more money won't improve your personal network. You can be rich and lonely.

A rich person will not work for money. And I'm not entirely convinced that a poor person should either. There is very little in life that is inaccessible to you if you can work with other people.

You can't eat money, live in money, or have sex with money. It's just paper and numbers. Money isn't value. What you get in return is the real value. And very often, it's possible to trade favours to get what you need.

Having any amount of material wealth in any location on earth would still suck if you didn't also have immaterial wealth. Imagine living alone in a big mansion with no friends, and people only talk to you because you have money.
