@Moon @mrsaturday @awl @jeffcliff Now this is what I call breaking the fediverse. Now my conversations will be one-sided with them and I won't know what was said... lol.

@tk Oh yeah, that is how they sucker you in when it comes to sale time. It's also worth pointing out that the company isn't losing out when they put things on sale... that's probably the price it should be at.

@tk The trick is to only buy necessary things, and try to get them while on sale.

@augustus I don't think we have enough women for this, so it would have to be for men here.

@augustus Are we even allowed to celebrate beauty at this point?

Interesting essay about how we are electing decay when we vote in democracy. I need to come back to this video or have discussions about this too.

@nosleep @lain @augustus @lebronjames75 To be honest with you, rt has been banned in my country and I have no idea what they've been saying unless it makes its way here. So you would be right that I am ignorant of what they have been doing or saying. My own government decided that I'm not allowed to see that.

@lebronjames75 @augustus @lain @nosleep Are they banned where you are?
It also made me wonder why I'm not allowed to see their propaganda at the start. I only get one side rather than seeing all sides and being able to find the middle ground between them. Although I do find mainstream propaganda from where I am or the US to be overwhelming so I try to not give it so much attention either.

@nosleep @lain @augustus @lebronjames75 What you said reminds me of mainstream propaganda in my own country. It seems like a narrative that they spin. Every time that I have known about something more than them or looked into it more, they've been wrong or they tar people. It's often divisive and negative which is why I try to limit my exposure to it. Which makes me more ignorant I suppose.
Is there a kernel of truth to any state sponsored media?

@lebronjames75 @augustus @lain @nosleep Don't worry, you haven't told me about that one.
It's interesting. It would be interesting to compare from different sources and times. And really get a feel for different propaganda and the tricks that they employ.
Your example reminds me of something that I stumbled across when looking into instruments.
"In 1932, on the order of Stalin, the Soviet authorities called on all Ukrainian Kobzars to attend a congress in Kharkiv. Those that arrived were taken outside the city and were all put to death."
Stalin basically had blind musicians shot here or they were later arrested. Probably because they were playing older national songs, like folksingers. This is not something that we hear much about.
"Kopan, Heorhiy – Arrested in 1930. Protested the censorship of Ukrainian songs. Arrested in 1936. Arrested again on March 19, 1938, and shot on March 28, 1938."
Makes me wonder how often this type of thing happened. I know it's not quite the same as an example of written propaganda. We don't learn much about communism at school but it sounds similar to what the Nazis did. The undesirables often get abused.

@nosleep @lain @augustus @lebronjames75
That is understandable. I wouldn't expect you to have more disdain for the nazis than communists given that history in your family. My family suffered during WWII, and we were being bombed so I have that connection there. Not that we learned enough about it. I'm more concerned with what is happening to my country now. I know people can take advantage of that. I just hope that other people can understand why I would like our internal problems to be resolved first because they have taken a back seat or been suppressed for so long now. We need time to discuss and address them properly.

Germany should have had the right to buy cheap oil or petrol from Russia, rather than having the Nordstream blown up. I should have the right to view whatever Russian propaganda that I want rather than it being banned in my country. I should have the right to have a country that isn't influenced by the EU or even the US/NATO (I'd say the Russians too but they aren't my main concern)... but we can't all have what we want because of geopolitics.
Also, I didn't realise that the post in question had been deleted when I replied so apologies on that front.

@NeonPurpleStar @lain @augustus @lebronjames75 I'm sure there are other worse takes that I have made.
I still think that what I said here is generally true. It might still take a change in government or a few more generations to see the change. I just don't think that the russian people are that bad, that they have kind of been westernised because of what gets imported. At least the younger generations or english speaking ones. Have the elite children get educated in Germany or Britain, somewhere with prestige in the west... it is amazing what educational propaganda does to young minds. I'm not advocating that we should do this, it just seems really effective. More than wars. I was amazed to learn about a few instances of how cosy Russians are in the west. One guy owned a football club and basically had to give it away. Foreign investment is insane.

@lebronjames75 @augustus @lain But our response to the conflict in Ukraine has set relations back. If what I've been told in this thread is right, then it seems like people like Nuland have supported setting those relations back with their policies. To me, the situation in Ukraine has always seemed like a losing situation to get involved in and I don't know how it could be resolved given geopolitics of the area. So often we end up making things worse.

@lebronjames75 @augustus @lain I would understand your point better if they weren't turning to the US or EU but formed their own union.
I think that in the west, those in charge are just better at justifying or hiding their corruption and frankly imperialist tendencies. I just don't think that Eastern Europe is any better under the west. I don't think it's good under Russia, but I also don't think that it is much better here.
Just look at the letter, it talks about promoting and inspiring certain values around the world. Not going to appease that as more will be asked of us, how many more wars and coups must the world endure for the elites in charge on the geopolitics stage?

@lebronjames75 @augustus @lain And I want to get away from the EU and US, but they won't let me. My country has gone to shit, things aren't working despite throwing money at the problems.
Our lives can be ruined over retweets here. It is becoming more oppressive. I doubt it is much better in Russia which we can at least agree on.

@lebronjames75 @augustus @lain You must be kidding yourself if you don't think that this is where the rest of Europe will be heading towards. When Poland rebelled, there were threats by the EU. Right now, the most they could do is threaten and add economic sanctions. They don't have the army that some of them do want which would let them include force for not complying. I've seen some of the fear-mongering about decisions Poland made for themselves and how bad this is. There is also a fear about Europe becoming more right-wing or nationalist, probably dating back to world war fears in Europe.
Things are more entrenched where I am. I don't think that leaving the EU solves all our problems by any means. But it should have given us more freedom to self-determine and create our own laws or go back to older common laws which support our freedom. The EU were increasingly infringing on our laws. I don't think that is made up as they have created a lot of laws over time. My government going harder on these things doesn't mean that the EU weren't deciding laws. Their interference isn't helping matters but legitimising it. The government should be listening to the public/citizens of their country, not to the EU or all these geopolitics whether it is Russia or the US.
