    @allison my old laptop whose screen just broke was pretty close to being viable for such things (and I was able to run artix + sway on it), sadly now that its gone I'm likely to stay cucked to systemd, x11 and glibc for the time being

    @iska how does it differ?

    guix seems like nixos with a nicer language but far fewer packages and less documentation which is a tradeoff I dont think I would want to make

    @allison VMs are the easy way to try out unusual OSes for sure, sadly for me somehow it doesnt feel real if it isnt on bare metal

    @allison if I ever have the time and have hardware that supports it and that isnt my daily driver experimenting with off the beaten path OSes would be cool

    I definitely want to try setting up a fully de-bloated Gentoo a laptop at some point

    @allison its the only distro I've tried that really feels like its not linuxy, which is kind of cool but I'm not sure how I feel about it

    cat /etc/nixos/configuration.nix isnt really any easier than pacman -Q and its annoying that I have to write a flake to install anything that isnt packaged, or that the linux filesystem hierarchy isnt used and so ABIs for precompiled binaries may break etc.

    reproducible builds would be nice except my language of choice completely ignores the OS for the most part and has its own declarative configuration system

    idk, I'm definitely not going back to "just works" distros like popos but idk if I want to stick with nixos, I might put arch on my old desktop when I get around to changing the OS on it

    my continued impression of it is that its a cool idea but unless you're doing a lot of complex sysadmining or running cloud deployments at scale or something like that it seems like its just an extra layer of complexity standing between you and the system

    it would be cool to try out VR someday, I really hope valve makes a new headset for it and my life is in a space where spending money on VR doesnt seem wasteful to me

    @mischievoustomato having to download 300GB+ models from a centralized site with git lfs is annoying af imo

    @allison @sun_eater @teratology its because they have the stupid american idea that people who have any non european ancestry arent “white”. most white brazilian people probably have like 5% native or black ancestry or something. (of course so do a lot of white americans but nevermind that, american racists are retards who never think things through)
