I think my toxic trait is that when I come across a perspective that is super foreign to my own, I want to understand it, so I keep asking questions from different directions hoping it will lead me to understand.

But often...it seems I just fundamentally can't understand and the asking makes people defensive because I come across as attacking their perspective, even though that's the last thing I want to do. So maybe I need to ask less questions?

I think I need to step away from this site. I keep failing to communicate, I keep coming across as judgmental in ways that I don't intend, and it's happened often enough that it's very clearly a problem with me. I don't know how to fix that except to not talk to people online.

I may pop in now and then for Nirvana in Fire watching, but for now, I'm stepping away. I am sorry.

It subverts the time-travel fix-it fics that are so common in MDZS canon by...being a different kind of time-travel fix-it fic, wherein WWX time travels by accident and then fixes everything...also by accident.

It's delightful and all the characters are so fun and I was just hooting with joy as I read it.

@lookitmychicken @Betty @Forestofglory I am SO much more forgiving about lack of communication if there's an actual reason someone would be bad at communicating. There are people who are very bad at communicating for various reasons!

But as someone who overcommunicates, overexplains, and wants to talk through everything...I can't relate. I'm always yelling, "JUST HAVE ONE CONVERSATION!" at the screen/page.

@lookitmychicken That is VERY common in kpop and in fact it used to be even more common. It's actually chilled out quite a bit in the past few years.

In the early aughts and 2010s, idols literally could not date. Contractually, but also because of fandom backlash.

When the fandom found out that my boy Myungsoo was dating someone, the backlash was UGLY. Fansites shut down. And that was a common thing--that example is just the one I happened to see up close. (Will I ever forget the footage of him crying helplessly about being "thrown away"? No, I will not.)

Anyway, I think the "our fans are our motivation/inspiration" thing is partly genuinely and partly fanservice. But it is 100% expected.

So now I'm trying to work out when the best time for a JC/LWJ/WWX fic would be.

It's got to be pre-WWX's death. I would like a fic about them post-resurrection, but I feel like it would need to be 100k words long to deal with all the accumulated trauma/rage/complicated feelings about the Wens. And I am just not going to write a novel-length fic at this point in my life.

So the possibility that makes the most sense to me is: after the Sunshot Campaign, everybody decides it would be a good idea for the new Jiang-zongzhu take a spouse from another sect. But lbr, LWJ & NHS are the only candidates.

JC agrees to marry LWJ because he doesn't know that LWJ is totally in love with WWX. He especially thinks their falling out after the three months in the Burial Mounds was a friendship-ender for them.

LWJ agrees because he's going to have to marry either JC or NHS or someone he barely knows from another sect & if he picks JC, at least he'll be near WWX.

Maximum angst, no?

For friends who do feel an inherent sense of gender, if the idea of gender suddenly a) disappeared or b) was replaced by a perspective that views it like personality--everyone has one, but each one is intrinsically different--how would you feel about that? Would it really affect your life in any way? Would you feel impoverished? What exactly would you miss?

@lookitmychicken A yearly thing sounds great! But US and US-inspired schools have started having these kinds of things monthly or even more frequently and it creates SO much work for moms (I’m sure a few dads too, but the work largely falls on moms). Especially in elementary school when the kids are too small to do these things themselves!

@soph_sol I love me a prologue when they're done well! Though I admit that they're frequently done poorly, which can understandably affect how people feel about them.

I'm going to be totally and completely petty and take advantage of the fact that plagiarism is the current topic of conversation in fandom and recommend a great work of fannish history:

The Cassandra Claire Plagiarism Debacle

Written in 2006 by white_serpent in the bad_penny community on journalfen (which was a journaling community where a lot of people fled after various strikethrough incidents on livejournal).

It's an incredibly well-researched look into a notorious early aughts fannish incident involving someone who later became a successful, best-selling author. And it is fascinating!

And a bonus recommendation: donate to the Internet Archive/Wayback Machine! They're the only ones keeping our fannish history accessible on the internet!!!!
