@goldgust to me it is obvious that orange bottoms, because when as a kid I lived in an orange-growing climate, the way I learned to eat oranges involved fingering the orange's hole 😂

(the method: when you have a really nice juicy orange, you roll it around and squeeze it to get the juices going, then cut a small hole in the skin at one end, and squeeze the orange to drink the juice out of the hole. when your juice is running dry, you can stick a finger in the hole and squish at the pulp with it, allowing you to get more juice. then, when you're done with the juice, tear the orange open and eat the pulp!)

I just love learning more about the tiny esoteric details people pay attention to about a thing they care deeply about but I've never thought much about before! me enjoying listening to a menswear podcast episode discussing terribly nerdy minutiae about bespoke tailoring, despite feeling confident that I will never in my life be in the position of even considering purchasing bespoke menswear. It's cool to just get a tiny glimpse into the reality of what a person's eyes could become open to, if you are a person who lives in that world. to be able to, say, interpret details of how the chest of a suit jacket fits over the body and know what it means.

and every single thing imaginable has these kinds of terribly detailed minutiae a person can be invested in understanding! I can never know it all but I love to see the world through all those other people's eyes, even just this little bit

red jeans remaking project complete! these jeans were too wide in the waist and too narrow in the thigh. I did the following:

1. removed the waistband so I could get some matching fabric from the inner side, to expand the thighs

2. unpicked the back seam and the inner leg seams

3. added the inner waistband fabric into the seams inside the legs, from the top of the seam to my knees

4. sewed up the back seam to take in fabric heading up to the waist

5. sewed the original waistband back on, with a tuck at the back to make up for how the back of the pants were taken in

6. sewed in some sturdy grey fabric scavenged from a dead pair of pants to cover the raw inside of the waistband

7. mended a small hole in the inner thigh

I maintained all the fabric in the seam at the back so that if I ever need to expand my waist again I have room to do that, instead of trimming the seams closely

and they're done!
