My sister is once again working on a costume for my five-year-old nephew to wear to school. Why??? do schools require this sort of thing??? No wonder she wants to homeschool.

I liked it a lot, but then I was pretty hands-off in that respect and let kiddo sort out their own costumes, mostly.

My favourite kiddo costume was when they were about four years old & went to pre-school book week as Coraline. They wore pajamas & a dressing gown, had a key on a string around their neck, and some painted marbles to play with.
All their friends were Disney princesses. It was an excellent group photo.
My kiddo has always been gloriously weird. ♥️

lirazel (lirazel@federatedfandom.net)'s status on Saturday, 03-Feb-2024 05:51:06 JST lirazel @lookitmychicken A yearly thing sounds great! But US and US-inspired schools have started having these kinds of things monthly or even more frequently and it creates SO much work for moms (I’m sure a few dads too, but the work largely falls on moms). Especially in elementary school when the kids are too small to do these things themselves!

Which I probably kinda knew anyway, but reading about some specific examples brings it home.
Gods, I don't envy anyone who lives in the US & who doesn't have the option of emigrating. ☹️
