@nemesis @Arcana @mja @allison shoutouts to Der ubermensch ey? How can anyone change what they value? You're always gonna wanna food and water, of course. Maybe you decide you want to play pokemon less and after a while have less of a drive to do so, but you didn't value pokemon, you valued whatever feeling it gave you, which you're still gonna want

@nemesis @Arcana @mja @allison can they be defined as the same person if they value different things? I figure if, through some magic, maybe brain surgery, if you can change what you value, you're a different person.

@hidden I'm going to kill myself people keep using terms I think of as synonymous as if they contradict each other

@Arcana @mja @allison @nemesis I don't believe people can create their own morals. They're innate and instinctual. Best you can do is change what you're exposed to to change how you best believe you can aim for them.

@hidden @allison @mja @nemesis is motivation separate from morality? I figured you're motivated to do what you value.

@nemesis @mja @allison seems to me if you say you were amoral you'd lose motivation for everything

How do people prefer to prefix their variable names to indicate type? Starting doing n_ for ints, s_ for structs, and p_ for pointers. So, could get something like pn_count or something

@nemesis @Arcana @ai @hidden but there's also an arrow pointing from the particular universe (or universes) mercurial is instantiated in to mercurial himself

@nemesis @Arcana @ai @hidden ok I think that makes sense. Seems solipsistic. Better than lack of free will.

@nemesis @Arcana @ai @hidden goddamn it
Well if the world gave rose to it then how can we believe that our brains are independent?

@nemesis @Arcana @ai @hidden how can we know that our computations are the result of more than the previous state of the universe?
If we're thinking that the universe doesn't exist outside our head, then it makes sense.

@nemesis @Arcana @ai @hidden if my brain was the calculator, yes
We can imagine a 'perfect calculator' which wouldn't be affected by the outside world, but that'd be based on how we believe things to work

@nemesis @Arcana @ai @hidden based on our understanding of the universe, yes, 2 + 2 = 4. If a calculator says otherwise, it's probably wrong, and if I believe otherwise, I'd be wrong.

@nemesis @Arcana @ai @hidden we can never know that for certain, unfortunately, and I fucking hate myself that I believe that, but yes
