@AnthonyJK mark my words- they will acquiesce and compromise to implement the shittiest parts of Project 2025 as they keep lurching farther to the right. This is not a party of the people. Yes, in a few individual state legislatures Dems still represent some progressive values, but the national tone of the party is one of weakness and complicity.

It would be one thing if the US had an actual opposition party rather than just two faces of a corporate oligarchy -- a fascist far right "party" and its center right administrative wing ensuring there's enough cops to prevent uprisings.

That might actually be the best outcome we can hope for in the #duocracy. We can hope there's some iota of justice that's meted out by the courts, but there was no legislative path forward after Pelosi seated 130+ sworn Seditionists in Congress.

At least w Trump 2.0, shitlibs might be upset about the stuff Biden gets a pass for just bc it's Trump.

I'm not going to tell you how to vote- many of my moots on here have zero faith in the electoral system, and rightfully so. I will ask that you #votelocal for the best candidates, because this is often where the buck stops and meaningful change is possible.

My own conservative suburb is a good example - a #grassroots campaign for a city council seat won against a corporate backed shill in 2021. Outspent 10:1, she triumphed by some 52 votes and has consistently delivered for our #community.

I say I don't wonder about it too much because it's still the duocracy, and even with Dem majorities in both legislative chambers we can assume rotating villains will replace Manchinema in the Senate and Blue Dog Centrists will always side with R's on any key policy votes. The Progressives will get really quiet again until mid-terms, refuse to vote as a block, and whatever minimal crumbs are permitted by R's will be heralded as bipartisan "wins" as rights and conditions erode further.

@darnell not a bad idea. Fwiw, Asian and black people were the only other masked folks I saw during recent air travel between the US, Korea, Thailand, and Japan. Depends on where you're traveling to how much hassle they'll give you, I'd expect. Those airplanes and airport lines are like petri dishes tho 🦠

@darnell I wonder if US public health will even bother mentioning masks this time or just go directly to a vaccine only approach. 4.8M doses (assuming 1 dose confers immunity) is about 1.5% of the US population. On an optimistic note, if the worst does come to pass, there will be plenty of doses freed up by the "I will not comply" thanks to the politicization of preventive medicine. N95's should be a staple PPE available in every pharmacy, but good idea to stock up before there are shortages.

@BE @maleve a cousin of mine is a reporter for an agriculture journal and they've basically already given up on reining in any contagion, from what I've heard. He acknowledged the species-jumping bird flu is a looming concern to the (predominantly MAGA aligned) ag sector, but in the same breath stated, "You'll just get it like you did COVID, nothing will change" and that's the end of it.

Voting for enablers and collaborators of fascists is not the same as voting for fascists- it's actually worse because they occupy the sociopolitical space where a real opposition party might actually rise up. Moderate Centrists needed to either shit or get off the can in 2021-2023 and chose most definitively to shit on their own constituents, who are now cheering for more compromise. No thanks.
