@mattly Maybe too easy for your reader, but the Hilda books are good, as are the Avatar: The Last Airbender books (at least those my family has seen so far)
If you haven't already, ask your librarians for recommendations

"Resistance is first of all a matter of principle and a way to live, to make yourself one small republic of unconquered spirit."
- Rebecca Solnit, Hope in the Dark
Someone is probably already doing this, but it occurs to me that a mutual aid shuttle service with white drivers would be really helpful for protecting folks targeted by ICE. Use that privilege as a shield to get folks safely to work and home https://mastodon.social/@heidilifeldman/114353990760261466
@inthehands Have you seen/heard this interview with Princeton's president? It gives me some hope that at least a few places are resisting the pressure to comply
My favorite part:
KHALID: So you're not willing, at this point, to make any concessions?
EISGRUBER: We believe it's important to defend academic freedom, and that's not something that can be compromised.
My 8 year old asked why I "keep going to that pep rally," so I explained last week's rally for Trans Day of Visibility and why I'm going to a Hands Off rally today (cuts to science & govt services, anti-DEI policies, anti-immigrant policies, etc etc). My sweet kiddo immediately asked to go along (despite the forecast for cold rain) and is making a sign about how everyone is welcome here ❤️
Moments like this I feel like I must be doing something right
I was in a meeting today in which an administrator said the phrase "we have to comply" multiple times and it just crawled right up my spine
They just have so much trust that everything will be fine if we just follow the rules, and I have none
@skeletor I'm glad Skeletor is inspired by Mariame Kaba. Here's info about her book for anyone who'd like to learn more: https://chicagoreader.com/arts-culture/let-this-radicalize-you-mariame-kaba-kelly-hayes-haymarket-books/

Today someone asked if I masked because I'm immunocompromised. I told them masking is just something I do now. It's a way to care for others and act in solidarity. If someone else masks, my mask means they aren't the only one
#YallMasking
@inthehands I think non-professors generally don't understand how much of a higher ed teaching job is actually pastoral care
@MediaActivist Movement Memos. Such a relief to hear folks acknowledge all the hard things happening and respond to them with hope, action, and solidarity
@inthehands Same! It just feels like a mighty big and as-yet-unsupported If
@inthehands Public mass transit > self-driving cars any day
@dekk @inthehands By this same logic, rebates are just loans you make to a corporation that hopes they won't have to pay you back
Yep. Story checks out
@brainwane There are itty bitty wild strawberries growing in my backyard
@inthehands Months ago, a guy at work mansplained mask fitting to me. I was the only person masked for this conversation 🙄
The best mask is the one you use!
@inthehands An important tool in my bystander toolbox is one I learned from someone on Twitter a few years ago: say Wow.
Someone says/does something racist/sexist/fascist/ableist/etc? Say “Wow.”
It interrupts and draws attention. It treats whatever came before as out of the ordinary. It doesn’t support the other person, but it also doesn’t immediately make them defensive. It buys you time to figure out what to say/do next
