I am curious about the Social Web Foundation. I am concerned about it too. I think it will be tricky to do what they want to do without Big Social putting their thumb on the scales.
“We’re not making a world without greed, Jacob. We’re making a world where greed is a perversion. Where grabbing everything for yourself instead of sharing is like smearing yourself with shit: gross. Wrong.
Our winning doesn’t mean you don’t get to be greedy. It means people will be ashamed for you, will pity you and want to distance themselves from you. You can be as greedy as you want, but no one will admire you for it.”
I've been doing a bit more reading on @aral 's Small Web concept. The Kitten project is pretty cool. I'm going to play around with it this month, kick the tires, and see how it is to use.
(I know it's early days of the project, but it has a lot of promise)
Good morning. I am contemplating my escape from the Apple ecosystem (my iPhone 11 is nearly dead, want to go more FOSS). Does anyone have any experience with Librem phones? https://puri.sm/products/librem-5/
@chris My use case is mostly communication (text, phone, secure messaging like Signal). I'm not a photographer; I don't use it for entertainment besides reading books occasionally.
TIL that, according to the source I found, the word ‘entrepreneur’ originated around 1828 and meant “manager or promoter of a theatrical production.” I find this to be an accurate take on what we have seen in the tech world in the past 30 years.
Based in rural Southwestern Ohio USA. Coder by day, game master by night.I am all about a good story: hearing, witnessing, or creating. Tabletop RPGs are my medium of choice. I consume books voraciously. I believe in both the power of privacy and the power of sharing. People over profits. We must hang together or surely we will hang separately. #ttrpg #foss #cyberpunk #writing #coffee #python #privacyKeep the web weird.
