@lain I honestly thought it was gonna be a parody when they said the cd's were called "punk". Something like "only one or two good songs, well we got these cd's called punk, with NO good songs!"
It seems cloudflare will be offering vendor lock-in fedi software. It's quite trivial to detect if a server is running behind a cloudflare IP and it's quite easy to do something using MRF.
Would you want such an MRF, and what functionality would you want in such an MRF?
We can drop messages, we can rewrite messages, we can make sure end users don't do calls to them by (re)moving attachments, we can mark accounts from such instances in some way...
We can also expand to not just detect cloudflare, but also other IP ranges, whitelist domains...
I already have a very quick-and-simple one to drop messages coming from them here https://git.pleroma.social/ilja/mrf/-/blob/develop/reject_cloudflare_policy.ex But I'm wondering if I should put more effort into making it more proper. (Or if someone wants to take the opportunity to get into *oma development, this could be a very good start if this is something that interests you :blobfoxwink: )
@lain Personally I think; Too few money, and you'll only get people who already have passive income and probably will use this position to increase their wealth. Too much money, and you make it even more attractive to psychopath billionaires who will use their wealth to get in power and then probably use this position to increase their wealth even more whatever the cost to the population.
If we assume this to be true, the question becomes if there's a better balance between these two extremes. In Belgium there are politicians who don't take more than the average worker wage. They also publicly state what assets they have when they start their term, so it's clear where there may be conflicts of interest. (Note that this isn't a general rule, it's just one party who has this as policy.) Is this a good way of doing things? Idk, but at the very least someone with an average wage will have a much better feel than a rich person with passive income for the economical effects of their decisions on the gross of the population. So... maybe?
All in all I would say the problem with current-day politics is more fundamental than what politicians are paid, though (for starters, I believe that elections being a zero-sum game is very bad for cooperation, which leads to bad results), but that's maybe besides the point here.
@duponin look at the market how similar software is priced. Similar can be functionality, but also similar in how to provide the software (use on own pc, saas...), complexity of the software, extra provided services...

ilja> Its new theory was that it had a copyright in certain personality traits that Holmes exhibited in later, still-copyrighted stories, where he "became capable of friendship," began to "express emotion" and "respect women," and even developed a "great interest" in dogs.
You heard it folx, according to the Doyle estate, starting 2023, it will finally be legal to be capable of friendship, express emotion, and respect women!
I remember when amolith had a copy right troll like that and hetzner almost threw him off because of it. It would've been interesting to know these thing back then.
@helene What does misskey have for that? In masto I know you can see all emojis and filter by name and instance I think. Then from the web interface you can just say which ones you want to add. (For the endpoint, I didn't know it existed. But yes, that sounds better than restarting, thx ^^)
