This is darkly hilarious. The presenter, Ryan, is a very good American military analyst. He used to do great stuff about the Ukraine war. Here he's talking about the loss of a fancy AWACS plane
Feeling quite aggro today. Hopefully I don't upset any of my usual correspondents.
I have actively engaged a couple of folks on here who rubbed me up the wrong way, rather than being my usual polite self. One of them is now blocked.
I am tired of cookers telling me renewables can't take the place of oil and/or that it was simply not possible to prepare for this oil situation in a way that wouldn't have caused the problems we now see.
I am tired of 'deep greenies'* telling me that renewables won't save the world and that even existing is bad, m'kay.
We absolutely could have prepared for this situation with much greater investment in renewable tech. No, it wouldn't fix absolutely every ill on the planet but it would put us in a much better position to do so than we currently find ourselves. It is not too late to act and every act towards building renewable, sustainable energy infrastructure will help us towards a better future.
If you don't agree, that's fine. But don't waste my time telling me why you disagree, you'll get a rude reply.
*not sure this is the right term but hopefully my explanation is clear enough.
@inthehands@johannab@ai6yr that two-parter was awesome. While the tech may have improved between then and now, no decent solution to the fundamental problem of paying attention/ being ready for failing automation has been proposed.
If you put 60V through a 12V solenoid and wait about a minute you will get a blue flame accompanied by the sound of fireworks. If you did this accidentally you will realise that you need to run towards the fire not away because you need to disconnect it. After disconnection there will be a nice calm orange flame which will self-extinguish after a minute or so. Every day is a school day. Oh and my mower's broken for the foreseeable future... #Fire#Fireworks#Oops
Added two more panels to the temporary* secondary solar array to help us get through midwinter. 2kW total, these are only 250W panels. You can get these for pocket money, nobody wants the small output panels.
*This temporary array was built 3 or 4 years ago.... It's real basic trestles made of rough 4x2 wood. #pv#offGrid#selfsufficiency
@feld@ojala maybe but if turning the tap off is easier than emptying the bucket with a teaspoon I suggest focusing on turning that tap off. We have so much we can easily decarbonise right now. We just don't have the political will mainly due to FUD spreaders paid for by the fossil fuel lobby. Carbon capture at present is just a part of this fog of FUD.
@feld@ojala I've yet to be convinced that any of the carbon capture schemes are a good use of money vs decarbonising. Until we've changed all the easy stuff to renewable electric I think it is 100% a waste of money, talent & resources.
@SlicerDicer you misunderstand your role in society. You're meant to buy new stuff not fix it! /s Out of interest, what brand/spec is your cleaner? I've been considering one for a while.
Running advice? I just completed the c25k program! I'd like to keep on running but I'd like some external motivation/program for motivation. 30mins/~5k per session is enough for me. Any ideas? #c25k#c25kgraduate#running#ParkRun
@stevenodb@Lurkle@aral not sure i agree. Given that everyone needs a phone and your choice is either Apple or Android those two ecosystems have great power to resist.
