On #HolocaustRemembranceDay, we remember the six million Jewish women, men and children, hundreds of thousands of Roma, and all other victims of the Holocaust.
Today we mark the 80 years since the liberation of the Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
It is our duty to teach future generations about European history, including its darkest chapters.
"The P550 is a 3-wide out-of-order core with a 13 stage pipeline. Out-of-order execution lets the core move past a stalled instruction to extract instruction level parallelism. It’s critical for achieving high performance because cache and memory latency can be significant limiters for modern CPUs."
A reminder to those who manage #websites (I needed it myself):
Remove the share to X/Twitter button from your sites, if you no longer want to be associated in any way to a social network run by a billionaire that thinks it ok to do a Nazi salute.
@cwebber@The_Icarian Correct, Dorsey is gone, specifically because Bluesky wanted more moderation than he was comfortable with. So that's a good sign, even though I'm still wary of the platform.
Today you'll hear many people quote the "I have a dream" speech (including people on the right) but fewer people quote this:
"'And one day we must ask the question, 'Why are there forty million poor people in America?' And when you begin to ask that question, you are raising questions about the economic system, about a broader distribution of wealth."
We're coming to the point where decentralized social media contains the only structures we're going to have left that aren't completely controlled by hard-right interests
The one centralized holdout is Bluesky, which means either that's going to need to be decentralized, or it's going to be the next right-wing target over this year probably
The TikTok ban, the Musk Twitter takeover, the Facebook moderation policy changes, the Republicans’ rapidly intensifying crackdowns on speech... let these be the proof you needed to move anything you care about online to a space you control.
We are determined to keep the online world informative and free from distortion.
Our Digital Services Act gives you more rights online, with extra measures to protect young users.
Very large online platforms and search engines are obliged to:
🔹 stop the spread of illegal content; 🔸 tell users if and why their content was removed; 🔹 give users options to opt out of seeing recommended content based on profiling; 🔸 ban ads targeted to minors; 🔹 be transparent about your interactions with AI.
I realize money plays a role. A big role. But don't make the mistake of taking tech bro's as our friends.
The relationship is utilitarian at best. Tech bro's don't "invest" in open source because they believe in its ideals, they do it because it gives them the means to do whatever they like. And this is seldom something good or desirable.
Those are the same people that do one mass layoff after the next one whenever it suits them.
They are not our friends. Jack Dorsey should not be welcome.
Because like all tech billionaires he has an agenda which is incompatible with the ideals of open source. Giving him a platform where be can speak about his interest, despite not having contributed to the community is acting against the interest of the open source community as a whole.
You wouldn't invite a fossil fuel lobbyist to a renewable energy panel either, would you?
"Slovenia has celebrated its status the European Space Agency's 23rd Member State with a day of space activities including a primetime television broadcast from the Herman Potočnik Noordung Space Technology Center in Vitanje."
Can Zuck actually pull this off in 2025? Probably not. But that’s not going to stop him from laying off engineers again this year, and forcing the remainder to rely on #AI to get work done that their ex-colleagues would have helped with. AI is still going to suck, but Zuck is going to force it to “work”.
@Kroc My favourite GNU/#Linux distribution with #KDE#Plasma desktop is openSUSE TUmbleweed. Fedora KDE soin is also very very nice. Also check out KDE Neon and Kubuntu
