@icedquinn@blob.cat I had an TOSlink to 3.5mm/RCA jack adapter and it would completely turn off the optical input for 30 seconds after you started it just to look for a bluetooth device. there was no reason for this to even exist as it's always searching anyways... the only reason I wanted it was because I was hooking to computer speakers and wanted a remote control, which ended up having volume levels I couldn't much use because the volume steps were too big.. I ended up swapping it out with a dumb one that works about as well and just using a 3.5mm attenuator knob
@icedquinn@blob.cat@LunaDragofelis@buff.tomboyfan.club the Chromecast was pretty cool because most cast capable devices require you to open the app, whereas the Chromecast don't give a shit But still it was doomed to fail because people don't mind using a remote most of the time

@icedquinn@blob.cat@nus@mstdn.social my alarm clock app i bought has an internet radio option which is super helpful since eventually I'll get numb to the sound and sleep through it. the alarm clock app also forces me to walk across the house to scan an NFC tag to stop it
@icedquinn@blob.cat for all the shortcomings of roku it's still one of the easiest interfaces IMO and it doesn't seem to favor one platform other the other, and all the apps are uninstallable, no bloatware. and when you set it up without wifi it's still a decent dumbTV
@icedquinn@blob.cat there's no option to set the screensaver to just turn off the TV screen once it updates the theme option This is only on rokuTVs tho
Roku removed the option to turn on the power saver screensaver on their own TVs so the only way to get it is to reset, not connect to the internet, and quickly after setting it, tell it to not download wallpapers and screensavers
@icedquinn@blob.cat I would recon it gets to about 50c by touch and I assume that's the charge controller. It's killed multiple USB C to barrel jack adapters because they immediately fry if you backfeed voltage which is really easy to do when the port is bi directional. I try to use micro USB when practical otherwise using a legitimate laptop charger
