    @0xabad1dea the cash drawer's lock is broken and can't open it? I picture a broken key blade in the hole, somehow...

    Now, this section of one of @TechConnectify 's Catalytic Converters video is just genius. It shows how much gasoline we burn every time we use a car.

    https://youtu.be/Aytf6ARcs8s?t=468

    "Now, it doesn't seem like you're setting fire to gasoline when you drive your car, but you are in fact burning it, and faster than you see here.

    Now imagine millions of cars doing this, all at the same time.

    Yeah."

    EDIT: The official Masto client shows nothing, so maybe not. So the question is: have you reached the end of your Home feed?

    Have you seen this or something equivalent?

    Poll in next toot.

    @hellomiakoda @minego this is lovely. Go wild with it. You can also try on a VM, it's cheaper, and you can take a snapshot right before is ready to be fscked up, so getting a fres one is just a button press.

    But don't forget to try to learn WHY it gets broken (or not). Knowing how and why the systems behave will tear down that magic sense of them.

    @hellomiakoda @psoutham @fredds my suggestion is to get into an #OpenSuse IRC channel. The libera.chat network surely has one. Try https://web.libera.chat/#opensuse .

    I'm starting to feel like I don't want to use #Ansible anymore. I have a simple data structure:

    ```
    vars:
    foo:
    exporters:
    exp1: ...
    exp2: ...
    bar:
    exporters:
    exp1: ...
    exp3: ...
    ```

    Now I need this one instead:

    ```
    exp1: [ foo, bar, ]
    exp2: [ foo, ]
    exp3: [ bar, ]
    ```

    Doing that conversion feels so contrived (I haven't even finished writing it) that I want to give up and find alternatives. Ansible is simple, but just like Lua, sometimes it feels like ASM.

    I think I already asked something similar a few weeks back, but isn't there a public site where I can fetch #Copernicus GLO-30 #DEM files with a simple http client anymore? I used to use `wget` for this, then it was AWS CLI, and now it seems I have to set it up with a user/pass/key/secret_key?

    I remember cloning the whole mapzen repo when it was on peril of disappearing, should I have done the same with data that's supposed to be public? Has anyone done that already?

    @BeAware If I want to automate installing and configurin Mastodon on a serer, I would rather not have to install a compiler there.

    @BeAware that's more "recompilable" than "reconfigurable" :) But yeah, I guessed that much.

    Oh, I thought the 500 char limit in #Mastodon was configurable. Now I wonder what software are running on the instances of people who post long toots. For the moment, I found this sight fork:

    @sebsauvage mais on se repose au dessus des externalités tout le temps. Si ce n'est pas la stdlib ou l'interpreter du language, c'est l'OS, la libc ou autre libraries basse (expat, pcre, ssl, etc). C'est toujours un balance entre vitesse d'implementation et mantenir notre propre code.

    @_elena my advice as also self hoster and also parent is to cram as much house keeping in those 20m and use after-bedtime time for self hosting. That's assuming that your kids sleep way more than you do (mine sleep some 11h, I try to do 8h). Alternatively, doing it in the very early morning, but that's not for me. Good luck!
