@silverpill it's the main thing fedilinks is concerned with, it's primarily an API project. sure, it exists to enable a particular UX, but ultimately the problem it solves is: how can apps implement the UX, if there are no suitable APIs yet?

however, there's a suggestion of adding an "Or open in an app" link within the "remote interaction dialog" shown to logged-out users on mastodon instances. as far as we know there are no implementations of such tho.

hello linux fans and non-fans and begrudging users, we would like to pre-announce SystemDonut, a new kitchen-sink init system targeting musl. its main feature is that it's not systemd, that is, it's not coupled to glibc like systemd is. expect a full announcement 2026-04-01.

@jonny we still worry about the specs being controlled by a fascist(?) iwrc. but we suppose that can be dealt with by maintaining our own independent implementation, and hard-forking if necessary?

@hrefna since you seem to prefer long-form responses: the poll can answer the question of why scientists are on bluesky, but it cannot prove scientists are on bluesky, because it induces a selection bias by design.

yet it's being passed off as "scientists are on bluesky".

@dalias the purpose of "audit log" feature we proposed to various fedi software is that it lets mods detect when an user is actively bringing hate speech into the global feed.

if you see lots of uncorrelated "reply" causes, that's one thing, but if you see lots of correlated "search" (or "explicit request") causes, that has a completely different interpretation.
