Democracy is not designed for a well-educated elite who don’t need to worry about their next rent payment or food for the coming week. It is for and by average or below-average people with lower incomes and less education. Also elections cannot be guaranteed to produce the most efficient and beneficial outcomes. I am very surprised that it has survived and is run by the richest countries, even though many other political systems have failed.

Need to think about why the working class has turned to Trump. I don’t think IT professionals living in the Bay Area or other fancy cities, making $150,000+ a year, are part of the working class.

@thinkpad I can't fully agree, but it's an interesting perspective. I see it as a failure of social media, which only reflects a small group of people's messages and mistakenly judges them as representing everyone's opinion.

Python syntax has changed a lot since I moved to Rust. Now, Python code can show types, even though the compiler doesn’t actually use them. If developers really want to use types, even if the compiler simply ignores them, why don’t they just use Go instead? #python #golang

A guy on YouTube switched his Linux distro from Debian to Arch because he said Neovim on Debian is outdated. He'd be better off learning how to install from source and package it himself before switching to another distro. He may end up spending his entire life switching Linux distros rather than actually learning #Linux.

There are many similar(loan) words in Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Cantonese. I can feel the influence of ancient Chinese characters in these languages, which gives a sense of unity within Asia. It’s sad to see Cantonese disappearing and that China is not trying to preserve it. Cao lầu originates from here, Hội An. It was not food for the poor; rather, it was a dish for higher-ranking officials. It has a very special recipe that distinguishes these noodles from many other Vietnamese noodles. This restaurant, Quán Cao Lầu Thanh, is one of the few restaurants that still follow its authentic recipe.

Did you know that in Mastodon, you can change your language preferences for individual users you follow? This means that if you only want to see posts in English from a specific user, you can set your language preference to English for that user.

@Suiseiseki Need some research to make all clear but two thing just came to my brain is "Chris Lattner, had been hired by Apple to
work on LLVM" and "CUPS(Common UNIX Printing System)" - They are not just a product in a narrow sense though.

@Suiseiseki I'm not sure if Apple had released any one good product or not. That's a highly controversial statement. However, I can say they have made significant contributions to the computer world in a positive way, particularly in the 80s and 90s.
