Calculus 3rd edition by Michael Spivak (1994) Hardcover . This book has actually impacted my life more than the Bible. (I’m not a religious person, but I read it to understand Western culture.)

Seems Korean media is busy focusing on domestic politics, so few are covering the Nobel Prize awarded to 'Nihon Hidankyo,' a Japanese organization representing atomic bomb survivors. When they do, it's usually about Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Nobel Peace Prize 2024 was awarded to Nihon Hidankyo "for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again"

Unfortunately, the package photos show Naan, but the actual content inside was not Naan. I used to live in Arizona, so I can tell that it is a (poorly made) tortilla. Many non-authentic Asian restaurants in Korea use the same thing for Naan, tortilla, and pita bread, even though they claim to be authentic and have hired foreigners (whom people mistakenly assume are from the food's country of origin) ;-)

This is not naan; It is a tortilla.
Naan, tortilla and pita bread are all the same slightly heated flatbreads made from flour in Korea.

@Dingsextrem If we are not discussing pure mathematics, there is no true zero in real life—only values that are nearly zero. What seems nearly zero can easily become nonzero if the underlying assumptions, including both scientific and social factors, change. Therefore, we must adopt a conservative approach, especially when human life is involved. Especially for mines.

@joewein Landmines don’t discriminate―they harm not only Russian civilians but also Ukrainian civilians. They don’t care what passport you carry, how old you are, or whether you’re a human, a dog, or a cat.

Mastodon is trying to store the whole world in its backpack. That's neither decentralizing nor will it work. Decentralization is about how to coexist with others, not about living alone without them. I am not talking about the philosophy of Mastodon but about its technical decision regarding remote content retention. #mastodon #decentralization

The US sending anti-personnel landmines to Ukraine is insane. I live in Korea, a country with countless landmines in the DMZ that even Koreans tend to ignore. Anti-personnel landmines should be banned worldwide! Now I hate Joe Biden. #Ukraine

It is very rare for Koreans to call it a Portuguese tart. They simply call it 'egg tart' for all its kinds.

There are still many low-cost coffee vendors (just a little over $1) and $1 pastry stands at subway stations. Even though many locals complain that Seoul’s cost of living has risen dramatically, it is still a very economical city compared to major cities in other developed western countries, though fruits and meats are significantly more expensive.

But don't expect the pastries to be like those from Western countries. They are very much an Asian style of bread. Western staples like sourdough, water-boiled bagels, unprocessed cheeses, and fruits like avocado are less common and often come with a hefty ‘foreigner price’ here, as they are not very popular.

Systemd-homed? A new approach to managing user home directories based on the systemd philosophy? The Linux I use today is quite different from the Unix I started with when I was in school.

Whom would you want as your boss: a corrupt boss who is harmful to society and can pay you double or even triple the minimum wage, or an honest but incompetent boss who can barely pay you the minimum wage - or sometimes even less? Based on my limited knowledge of history, it seems that the public has consistently chosen the first option.
