Another weekend gone and I have really not caught up on much. I did finally put away the old TV though so that's something. Also though not renewed or anything I am neither exhausted which considering my 3 hour training ride earlier I will count as a win.

Oh well, it could be so, so so much worse.

Trying to find home for Sabbath. Sabby lived w/ me for 5 months, so I know him well. He's good w/ other dogs & cats. Biggest fault is lacks any awareness about his internal temp. U really must watch him in summer.
I would take him, but hard to sneak in ~70lb dog...especially when my dog thinks riling Sabby up is world's best thing.
Family that has Sabby has 2 kids & he is great w/ them, but they r finding it difficult to care 4 him. He's got jackets, etc that you can have.

    • Run your own homelab

@claus @badnetmask @homelab Kubernetes calls these "control plane" in the docs, in case that is confusing for anyone, but yeah, odd numbers only.

Another gotcha is adding too many nodes. Latency be intense on a heavy system. Galera docs say no more than 9 (or did, it has probably been a couple of years since I have had to dig that out and scold a customer that should know better with it)

Jessica & I are going to talk about legal statuses (mostly non-profits) on Monday in prep for the Aug @friendsofccmusic meeting.

If u have questions, lmk. This is something we really have to get right. It will determine what we can and cannot do regarding raising funds, distributing funds, etc. This gets to the heart of the org on whether we are for musicians, for labels, for fans, or some combination. It's important that #netlabel / #ccmusic folks use their voice

    As always, boosts welcome

@clacke Falling In Reverse has it's moments. Clearly a child of pop homogenezation at some level but the ballad cover of Last Resort and all of these bands intense focus on video again points to the 80s.

@clacke Samurai Pizza Cats are another band that in some ways reflect the hair metal era but with a sound completely different. SPC has had some conteoveries though. Idk really anything about them. I also don't think their music is as interesting as Electric Callboy's. They have a song that ostensibly is about a chef that murders people that order pineapple on their pizza. Maybe start with Zero Hero to get a sense of their weird humor first though

@clacke Babymetal has been heading in an interesting direction. I am not up on all my Babymetal lore but it seems they have shed the idol chains and Su-metal at least has a clear voice. She's now 27 so kinda past idol, though I can't say that is a scene I know a lot about. Electric Callboy's Tekkno is also interesting with a new lead singer but I think they have backslid on their most recent album. The rise of streaming I think has lead to a lack of diversity on the very pointy end of mainstream

anybody seen weird #ApacheTomcat GUI presentation issues? We are seeing some strange issues after 9.0.89. It's a bit unclear what all versions have been tried. Had some weird stuff around the RECYCLE_FACADES changes, and we tried a bunch of versions then, but I think only 102 was tried for the new ones.

I have suggested trying 9.0.96 due to the html changes.

@loke @clacke "In an article for Food & Wine, cookbook author and food celeb Priya Krishna explains that consumers started calling the drink by the name boba, a Chinese slang term for "breasts," simply because of the shape of the tapioca balls. Unoriginal? Maybe. Fun? Yes. The cheeky name applies not only to tapioca pearls but also to fruit jelly or red bean pearls, which are common replacements for those who aren't wild about the texture of tapioca."

The Surprising Reason Bubble Tea Is Called Boba - The Daily Meal
      from Elaina Friedman
Boba tea might be pretty ubiquitous in the U.S. nowadays, but there's a fair chance you don't know its origin story -- or even how it got its name.

@wjmaggos I'm not sure this article reflects what Jay actually argued but if he said we didn't need to shut things down for any period of time I don't see any argument for that at all. There were literally no hospital beds. the problem being solved was NOT stopping the spread of covid. the problem being solved was keeping people out of the hospital from broken bones playing sports and car wrecks and such.

hospitals needed to get their PPE situation under control. But how long was that needed?

@sambowne so, was curious when this all started and it seems like Clinton is when the crackdown began

not sure how this data normalizes with attempts to cross but it seems like the lull was very much Obama and Trump.

      Mexico–United States border crisis
There is an ongoing migrant crisis in North America concerning the illegal migration of people into the United States across the Mexico-United States border. U.S. Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump both referred to surges in migrants at the border as a "crisis" during their tenure. Following a decline in migrants crossing the border during the first Trump administration, illegal border crossings surged during the Joe Biden administration, with over 7.2 million migrants encountered between January 2021 and January 2024, not counting gotaways. Experts have attributed the increase in attempted crossings to pent-up demand, changes in global migration patterns, a change of perceptions by migrants about the ease of crossing, and incentives for migrants to try to cross again after Title 42 expulsions. The number of migrants sent back increased as a result, though the percentage sent back decreased. Border apprehensions fell back to 2020 levels in mid-2024. The migrants, who are mostly of Guatemalan, Salvadoran, Honduran, and Venezuelan citizenship, are reported to be escaping economic hardship, gang violence and environmental disaster in their home countries (particularly...
